How do you uninstall previous versions of Dorico? (4,5,etc.)

Do you simply delete it from your applications folder? (I’m on a Macbook Pro.) Or is there a more legit way via the Steinberg apps (Download Assistant/Activation Manager/etc.)? Previous posts about uninstalling Dorico fail to answer this question, so I’m asking it again.

A 2nd question: will deleting/uninstalling Doricos 3,4,5,etc. have any bearing on files created with those versions? Luckily I’ve had no issue personally with opening up older version files in newer Dorico 6, but wondering what other users’ experience with this has been…

Thank you.

edit: I just ended up dragging the older dorico applications into the trash. :+1:

Yes, and I’ve had no issues opening older files.

I’m a bit puzzled as to why you feel the need to delete the older versions of the software. The files, regardless of what version you created them in, will open in your newest version automatically and save in that format the next time you save. Never had a problem in that regard and see no need to uninstall anything.

@L3B – I found that my file associations and shortcut links still pointed to v5 even after I upgraded to v6. It took me a little head scratching until I realized what was happening. If there is no need to retain the old software version, why not free up the disk space and avoid any chance of working with the “outdated” version. Also I believe one can re-download an older version if it is truly needed.

You can change this once for all in less than 20 seconds. Navigate to one of your Dorico project files, press cmd-I select “Open with” (Dorico 6) and don’t forget to tick “Change all”.

I need to free up space on my hard drive. Getting rid of all unnecessary items. Thanks.

This is helpful, thanks!

@k_b Thanks — already been there, done that. Just sharing why one might want to get rid of the old.
