The new loopback is a little bit more convulated, but much more powerful IMO. Here’s a link to the supplementary manual that explains how to use it: https://download.steinberg.net/downloads_hardware/UR-C/Manuals/UR-C_V3.0_Supplementary_Manual_English.pdf

Do you have any examples or videos? I can’t understand new loopback too.

Agreed, video is of no help at all, and neither is the manual, can be summarized ā€œthere is a streaming channel, yay!ā€ And some other channels with even less explanation, except for a wonky diagram for engineering majors.

Ok, what do we do with it to make loopback work like it did when it was an option? Some examples would be really helpful, for instance, I want to talk through my microphone on zoom and also have my PC sound from ableton go to the person on the other end at zoom. Do I change windows settings? Ableton settings? Zoom settings? And to what?

Ok, not sure why Steinberg can’t answer questions or help users in their own support forums. But I’ve been experimenting and playing around with the new drivers/dspmix in windows so I will give you what I think is the correct way to set it up. There are some gaps in my knowledge, and somethings are perhaps wrong, so I will be happy to correct/update this post if/when correct info or documentation becomes available.

So, to set up UR-C for streaming with the 3.0 update (windows, maybe mac too)
1- Check and verify drivers/firmware are installed, and you have rebooted. When going into Sound Settings in the Windows Control Panel you should now have 3 options for input and 3 for output, instead of 1 and 1.

  1. (optional, but will save on future confusion) Check the naming of the 3 items for input/output. If any are named ā€œlineā€ correct them:
Open Settings > System > Sound > More sound settings > Double-click the audio device to rename it. ā€˜line’ in the Playback (output) section should be Music, and ā€˜line’ in the Recording (input) section should be Streaming. Streaming is the new name for our loopback channel and what we care about.

Now here’s the nice part of the new drivers, you can set up different applications to use different input/output drivers. Meaning windows can be set up normal (like you did with loopback turned off), while zoom/discord/whatever can be set up with loopback. For my situation, I always want loopback enabled with zoom, so iI don’t have to change anything. On to the settings.

3a. Windows: Set Output to DAW, and Input to 1/2
3b. Zoom (or other app where you want loopback streaming): Leave Output alone, system/daw is fine. Really anything is fine, more on that below. The Input/microphone device is what’s important, change that to Streaming (or line if you did not change the name to Streaming).

And that’s it! Should have nicely merged audio streams now. Another way of setup that might be easier in some use cases is to set all your apps to use system settings, and then when you want to change things go into the windows settings and change the input there back and forth from 1/2 and Streaming. Maybe there’s a desktop wigit or something that can do that, you could name it Loopback!

Ok, the actual settings section. I believe (correct me if I’m wrong) that most of the new drivers are identical except for their name, and tied by their name to DSPMix. So for instance, you have DAW, Music, and Voice, and in DSPMix you have columns with the same title. If you use DSPMix for audio effects or whatever, you can change what each one does, but by default they appear to be the same.

Output:
DAW - default. Puts out all sound from your daw. Also puts out sound from windows
Music - same as above
Voice - same as above

In my tests it appears that changing the output setting changes only where non-daw windows sounds go, do they go to the DAW channel? Music Channel? Voice Channel? DAW sounds however always go to the DAW channel… in addition to the other channels. Pretty confusing, not sure there is any use to having these 3 channels unless you want to set up DSPmix to make them sound different. I plan on leaving it on DAW and forgetting the others exist.

Input:
Input 1/2: device(s) you have plugged into the 1/2 inputs on the UR-C
Voice: seems to be the same as above, can’t find any info on this.
Streaming: Input 1/2 + everything else, nicely combined.

DSPmix: don’t even open it/run it now, unless you want to use it for audio effects. The streaming/loopback functionality setup has nothing to do with it. I’ve removed it from my desktop, considering uninstalling.

Any changes/clarifications to all this are welcome!
