I would love to get the nr of bars per staff to automatically become more
balanced without going to engrave mode. Can you point me to where,
if possible, i can change some options?

There’s more info about Note Spacing at the bottom of the page. I MUCH prefer to adjust the note spacing than use casting off.
EDIT: you can also adjust note spacing midway through a layout:
This seems to solve the problem. Just a tiny change in “Default space for crochet …”. Now I have to go to the actual score and se what hapens there.
