I’m trying to customize my drum kit mapping in Dorico and I’ve run into a bit of a wall.
I have created a custom Playing Technique for a “Hi-Hat Splash” (foot splash), and I want to assign it to a specific note/sound in my VST instrument (e.g., Groove Agent or Kontakt).
Could someone guide me on the correct steps to:
Link my custom Playing Technique to a Percussion Instrument Playing Technique.
Map that specific technique to the correct MIDI note in the Percussion Map.
Ensure the notation appears correctly on the 5-line staff (using a specific notehead).
I want to make sure I’m doing this the “Dorico way” so it triggers the right sample every time I use that specific marking.
The videos are indeed very helpful but the method you describe above will get you there.
You can do 1 and 3 in one step. Assuming the HH is part of a drum kit you, in setup mode, open your kit and shift the HH (pedal) where you want it on the 5 line staff. Usually it is already in the correct position the D just below the bottom line. Then keeping the drum kit open highlight the HH (pedal) and go to Edit playing techniques. There if not available add your splash technique (it might already be there but defined as Open 1 or 2). Also adapt the notehead to your liking. Often an encircled x I think.
Then do step 2 making sure the technique allocated to the CC number is exactly the same as in the one defined earlier in playing techniques dialog.
