How to assign faders to tracks - Akai Midimix

I have tried for hours to assign tne volume-faders to tracks in Nuendo 14. I use Akai Midimix on PC. I can assign any fader to stereo out, Selected channel and some other functions, but where in the assistent can I make it work like a normal mixer? It must be possible.

pls help Im stuck.

I don’t have the device in the house.
But the AKAI MiDiMix cannot work like a normal mixer in Nuendo because it has no motorized faders or parameter feedback.
Track volumes will always jump to the physical fader position.
It’s fine for sends, plug-ins or relative parameters – but not as a real mixer surface.

I see- hmm ..not so good. thx for telling me– I still need to know how to assign the faders when I get a better remote,… anyone

?

If you buy a device with motorized faders, the faders will be automatically assigned to the volume. Make sure the device supports auto-banking. This means that when switching from track 4 to track 23, it will follow the correct bank.
I’m currently using a Softube Console 1 Fader with auto-banking.

Hi Tom

I don’t have one of these devices but most often the default MIDI assignment for Fader MIDI output will be MIDI CC 7 , on a MIDI Channel which matches the number of the fader. So Fader 1 = Ch 1 , Fader 2 = Ch 2.

If you want to you could cerebrate a MIDI track, set its input to the Akai, hit record, move the faders and then check in an editor to see what was recorded.

In Nunendo and Cubase the best way to map these faders to the internal mixer’s faders is to use the “MIDI Remote” Panel … the tab is found in the lower section of the GUI.

Create a new device ( I doubt the Akai has a built in preset ) , and create faders you want. Click on a fader and set up the fader behavior ( I suggest relative mode ). Then use the button to go to the Mapping assistant for that Fader . In there to can assign almost any Nuendo control to the fader using the list on the right. Save. Repeat for each Fader control you created.

This isn’t a great explanation , there’s a lot of walk throughs on YouTube.

Here’s a good one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1ocxUbeXJE

It is totally doable to have your Akai faders control the mixer levels … I’ve doe it on multiple devices like yours.

It is true that the faders won’t move in response to level changes recorded in Nuendo. But you can use the Akai faders to record levels, set levels etc. It’s a one-way control. Pretty useful IMO.

Hope this helps
