I have an audio file of an a cappella song, and I’ve edited hitpoints in the sample editor so that only the beats (quarter-notes) are shown. The tempo of the singing is quite uneven so each beat is of a different length. I do not want to quantize or warp the audio. I simply want the bars and beats align with the hitpoints of the audio, so that if I activate the metronome I can hear it clicking on the hitpoints. Is this possible?
I applied Tempo Detection to the audio. When I play back the result, each beat does have a new tempo but they’re totally off from the hitpoints in the audio. My workaround would be to create a new audio track with a percussive click on each hitpoint but I was hoping to use the metronome and have the bar/beat grid of the editor align with the hitpoints.
Yes, like this:
- Activate the time warp tool (yellow arrow)
- Activate grip (quarter notes)
- Click on a quarter note somewhere in the project (red arrow) and move the grid with the warp tool to the left/right until it sits on the beat of your audio
- Repeat with other beats that need tweaking
Activate the metronome and press play.

Oh, I see, thanks! So I have to manually move all the beats? Thankfully there are not an insane amount of them. I started tweaking them and it works.
Yeah, if Tempo Detection fails to do the job it’s time for good old manual tweaking.
Has tempo detection EVER failed? Not that I know of… Middlename - perfection!
It’s not that it failed; I just had to remove lots of hitponts to leave only the ones on the beats. But I assumed Cubase could be told to automatically align the bars and beats in the grid with those hitpoints.
