How to download products I've already bought?

Hi guys.

I own Cubase 12 and Wavelab 12. Both Pro.

These both are installed on a Windows machine, but I’ve just got a Mac and looking to download them. There’s no links in the MySteinberg products page, so forced to use the hateful SDA which just says ‘waiting for download’ before changing to ‘failed’.

Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong so I don’t spend all weekend tearing my hair out? Thanks.

I’ve seen the message about updating to the latest version of SDA and have done so. No change.

UPDATE.

Turned out to be an internet speed/stability issue. I took the machine to a friend’s with a fast connection and everything downloaded quickly without issue.

In the settings, you can set the download speed and max number of connections. That might help in your situation.

To be honest, I find the Steinberg Download (and Installation) Assistant very useful!
Everything is downloaded to a customizable location on your hard drive. So it might be a good idea to make a local backup of older software versions. There won’t be any updates for those anymore anyway.

My download folder is set to a large external SSD drive where all my installation files are stored. This way, new versions are added automatically. And if there are any problems, I can immediately reinstall an older version that works fine and is still available on the “install drive“.

Just checked… I can now switch back to SpectraLayers 9 or Cubase 10… including all the extras. … time to clean up a few things.

Aargh. Looks like I spoke too soon about ‘everything downloading ok’.

So after visiting a friend’s on Friday evening and it looked like SDA had successfully downloaded everything - green progress boxes with ticks, and all the equivalent folders in my downloads etc. I’ve just sat down to install everything. And whilst Wavelab and Cubase installed fine, it looks like most of the folders for additional content are empty, so not downloaded after all! So no Verve etc etc. A few have installed, Spectralayers, Halion Sonic etc.

So what’s going on? I can’t get back to my friends today to try and re download them so I’m kind of stuck as SDA won’t work with my internet connection.

So annoying! I did suspect something wasn’t right when the Cubase installation went so quickly. I’m sure from memory it usually takes you through lots of steps whilst installing all the extra content etc. Looks like it’s just installed the bare-bones application.

What to do? Uninstall it, and try to download the whole package again?

So the applications are all installed correctly and now you are looking for the content?

Open the Library Manager and there you should be able to see the content you have downloaded and installed. The content is typically moved to the final location and you can see where that is in the Library Manager.

If you don’t like the destination the Library Manager allows you to move them to somewhere else.

As long as the content files are installed it is not a problem that the download location is empty. The SDA knows what you have downloaded and in case there is an update it will download just the new products.

Thanks for the help.

I’m away from home at the moment so will check when I get back. That would be great if all the content is actually there somewhere. I did a search for Verve as I was looking to be able to use that in standalone mode as well as with Cubase. Search came up with nothing, and there was no options about it (or anything else) during the installation of Cubase. So I assumed it had not been downloaded. Even though the empty folder is in my download folder.

it’s confusing to me, so SDA downloads AND installs the software? But not Cubase itself which it only downloaded, leaving me to install manually.

The SDA is downloading and installing, both software and content. If you click the “Install” button, it really means both.

Verve is a package that can not be started as standalone program, it is content that needs to be loaded in HALion or HALion Sonic. This is how it looks in the Libary Manager

and this is how it looks in HALion Sonic

Ah yes. That makes sense. Thank you. It’s been so long since I last installed everything I’ve forgotten how things are.

Just got Cubase running and can confirm that Verve works as it should with all content present.

I like to have a standalone piano VstI so I can just play without opening Cubase and making a new project etc. by which time the inspiration to play has vanished . Unless Halion itself can operate in standalone mode, then no bother, I’ll just use the KORG M1 VSTi that I used previously.

So, would you say that all this content, is actually installed somewhere, to be used by various elements within Cubase, such as Halion, Sampler etc. And I can relax and delete all these empty folders?

Thanks again for your help.

My screenshot above shows the standalone HALion Sonic player, with Verve loaded. It also has a keyboard that you can use directly. So you are on a Mac just look for the HALion Sonic app and launch it.
