How to easily and quickly change the speed (BPM and percentage) of a song in Cubase 14 Pro

Hello, first time here. Maybe my topic is basic for most part of the people here. I would to change the spped of a song, easily and quickly (BPM and percentage) using Cubase 14 Pro, all at once, when the project has several audio parts placed in different positions (without moving them or losing sync). I can do this task with other DAW just ajusting the bpm of the song but I am lost with this one.

Thanks in advance for your help!

All the audio events that are in Musical Mode will follow tempo changes.

You can easily change the bpm in percent by typing e.g. 0.75* in the tempo field. That will result in the new tempo being 75% of the previous one.

Thanks. I tried your suggestion with all tracks set to Musical Mode, but the “.75*” command doesn’t work. Also, when I change the tempo (for example from 125 BPM to 100 BPM), the audio parts move — they don’t keep the same bar length. ¿¿?? In the picture when I reduce the bpm you can see the room that should be filled as they do in the original project (only one picture allowed -to me- by the forum).

Also you need to have any Audio Tracks you want to follow the Tempo set to use Musical Timebase rather than Linear Timebase. Musical Timebase measures time in Bars & Beats (which will adjust with Tempo) while LInear Timbase measures in mm:ss & stays constant across Tempo Changes.

Here’s a more detailed rundown.

You haven’t read the manual that I linked to, have you? I can tell because you mistake the track setting “Musical Time Base” with the audio event and clip setting “Musical Mode”.

None of the audio events in your screenshot has Musical Mode activated.

Sorry Johnny, I’m new here and I didn’t understand it (yes for the project, no for the event).

Later I realised that each audio event has to be set to “musical” one by one by clicking on it and activating the musical mode. That seems really strange to me.

Also, I’ve been testing with some audio files at 156 BPM. I imported them with the tracks already set to “musical” (the project). The audios are added as “non-musical”, but they fit perfectly within the 174 bars where they should be. However, when I click on the audio events and activate “musical mode” for them, they shrink and no longer fit the 174 bars — they turn into something that only covers about 135 bars, so they’re no longer aligned with the grid. I’m still lost… Any help would be appreciated.

By the way, how can I do to set “musical” for all audios by default? I mean, for any and all audios that I record or import to the project?

Thanks in advance for your help

The easiest place to set a bunch of them all at once is in the Pool Window. First make sure that they are set to their actual internal Tempo (if this is wrong you’ll end up with unexpected stretching - likely the source of your 156BPM woes). Then Select all the Audio Files you want to set to Musical Mode & click that checkbox. Order is important, set Tempo first & then the Mode.

While all this might seem unnecessarily complicated, it’s needed for soundtrack work. It also doesn’t help that the names Musical Mode & Musical Timebase are similar & often incorrectly confused for each other.

Thanks, raino! How can I modify/set the desired tempo as “internal tempo”? I mean, for the audio I record and the audio I import. (I have tried in the Pool and I see that it works but I imagine that it has to be easier and “on the fly”).

Thanks in advance for your help
