How to get Montage M ESP (vst) when buying a used Montage M8x

Hi,

Wasn’t sure where to post this, let me know if there is a better place.
Recently I bought a used Yamaha Montage M8x and I am trying to get my VST that comes bundled with it. The previous owner is willing to let me have it, but we do not know how to unlink it from his account. When I use the download access code it says that its already been used. Any suggestions/ideas/solutions are welcome.
Thanks!

Contact Yamaha Support Directly from your country or region. In my opinion, they are the only ones who can help you.

For anybody interested this is the solution:

Hi All. The same thing happened to me as well. I just bought a Montage M and the prev owner gave me the key, but it says: Download Access Code is invalid. Please check the code you entered and try again. I am in Canada so may try to contact Yamaha. I wondered of the previous owner needs to deactivate the key (but I think they are one time use only? If that is the case, someone at Yamaha may have to do something special if they will honor second owners. Not sure if getting the Cubase license will be the same issue. Regards!

Hi Greg,

Did you try the solution above? The Resale Wizard? As far as I know that is the only option.
And yes, the previous owner will need to do some steps including removing the software license from all computers, and Yamaha will not help so calling on them is a waste of time. Just use the system that was designed for this purpose specifically.

Best,

Mirko

Hi Mirko,

Thanks for your notes above. I did get a favourable response from the pre owner so I will check out the process and work on it. (likely in January).

I think some flavour of Cubase was also included so would that also be the same approach to process a Cubase ownership transfer?

Cheers,

GS

Hey Greg,
I already had Nuendo when I got my Montage, so I did not pursue that, but I do believe that the link is universal, for any transfer of ownership (however if the seller did not activate it, it’s just a matter of giving you the code). Also Steinberg’s help is considerably better than Yamaha’s (from my experience).

Cheers,

Mirkio

I did reach out to Yamaha Canada and got this prompt reply. So will try getting the seller to do the resale wizard (assuming they are willing). If that doesn’t work I will stop the pursuit. One of the links below (sorry had to remove links) is the Software License Agreement, but I did not see any specific language pertaining to transfer of ownership. Perhaps it is just custom in Japan to have everything locked down to avoid risk of abuse. But if there is a Steinberg supported Resale Wizard, that seems like the two entities (Yamaha and Steinberg) in disagreement.

Thank you for contacting Yamaha Canada Music and your detailed email.
Unfortunately the software is non-transferable and non-replaceable once it has been activated.***

Do not listen to Yamaha. It is 100% doable, as I and others have done it. Just follow the link I have provided.
