Hi! Kinda new to WaveLab, I’m mostly familiar with Pro Tools and Live, so this might sound a bit silly to some experienced users.
Basically, I’m doing a master for a client, however I wanted to play around with another track to explore WaveLab. I created an empty project, but it loaded up all the plugins I had on my previous session, I modified some parameters and went back to that session, only to find out that they changed there as well. In PT, every time I open a new session, it loads up empty, and modifying plugins/levels/etc in one session has no effect on other sessions. How can I achieve that in Wavelab? I know I could just empty my master section every time, but I like to keep a copy of all my sessions in case they come in handy in the future. Thanks!
Welcome to WaveLab. The Master Section is my least favorite aspect of WaveLab so I don’t use it.
Whether you’re working in the Audio Editor or Audio Montage, you can of course manually Save and Load Master Section Presets so you can save those settings and recall them later. It would be absurd if you couldn’t.
That said, it’s definitely not a straightforward as any normal DAW you may be used to and for various reasons, I fully avoid using the Master Section for anything other than the Playback Processing Effects Slots which always stay the same for me.
The best way in my opinion is to do all your work in an Audio Montage, and only insert plugins as Clip Effects, Track Effects, and Montage Output Effects found in the “Inspector” section of the Audio Montage. This way, all the plugins, settings, and various other things are fully stored in the .mon file so you can open what you’ve done and make changes if needed.
The .mon file is an Audio Montage file and similar to your .ptx file in WaveLab. There are some newer features in WaveLab 12 to save Projects and other misc things but in my opinion, working directly in an Audio Montage for each session or project is the most straightforward way. Plus, the Audio Montage is very non-destructive, much like a Pro Tools session. The Audio Editor is much more destructive despite having a fairly comprehensive Undo engine.
If you do insist on using the Master Section, the Save and Load buttons for the Master Section are in the bottom right corner. See attached.
