I’ve just purchased the UR22C recording pack, there’s a code for the Wavelab, but I cannot install it without download assistant. Download assistant wants an account from me, but I don’t want the assistant or account or tie account to any software, I just want to install the Wavelab with my code. Is it any way to do it without accounts?
I share your concerns to some degree, but see no problem with having a Steinberg account, which only requires minimal personal information. This is one of the downsides of the new licensing system, but there’s no other way to do it. You buy a license, and the license enforcement is done through an online process with plently of flexibility.
The old system (hardware protection, which will close down shortly) did enable WaveLab to run without any account if you just had the USB-eLicenser (“dongle”), however someone, at some point, had to buy and register the license and put it on the eLicenser in the first place.
Lots of people complained about the USB-eLicenser, and now that it’s gone, and people are complaining about needing an account for online licensing. Personally, I would not worry about a Steinberg account. Worry about your F*$eb00k account.
if wavelab was updated as often as download assistant / activation manager maybe it had less bugs?
i remember jokes of the late nineties that cubase spends more cpu checking up on a dongle than on a whole project that it ran - hence notes would be drawn soooo sluggishly … and third party solved it with a dongle emulator!
now i’m sitting with this elicencer which - haha- has been discontinued, with this buggy yet pretty current wavelab that gets no updates and that downloader and activator which gets updated like once a week as if it’s the main thing.
some things have not changed, haha!
