I occasionally miscalculate the ratio values when sketching out harp glissandi (for example, for playback purposes) and then can’t find a straightforward way to update the ratio afterwards (other than using Undo, which isn’t always possible if I return to something completed some time ago). I had hoped that clicking on the numeral would allow me to re-engage with the ratio dialog, but nothing happens, and the ratio values do not appear in the Properties panel.
By way of example, I should have entered 22:8 (with a base value of a 16th note), but entered 21:8 instead. If I highlight the first note and attempt to correct the mistake, Dorico applies the new ratio within the existing ratio, rather than replacing it:
Insert mode ON.
Delete the original tuplet
Apply the new one (the first note will already be selected)
Select the last note that you want under the tuplet and hit R (this will correctly reposition everything later)
Repitch it.
Insert mode OFF.
You have to do it like this because Dorico will nest tuplets (as you have discovered)
How elegant, @Christian_R - thank you. So obvious once demonstrated, but not at all obvious to this user beforehand.
Are all ratios described as tuplets? I’ve used terms like triplet, quintuplet, septuplet, etc., all my life, but have never really considered the correct term for ratios with larger values.
Thanks also to @Janus for another suggested solution - I’ll give this a try in a few minutes.
