How to move off a selected barline with just the keyboard

Ugh. Stupid question. I’m trying to get used to using the keyboard as much as possible for writing music and getting around my scores. I find that if I create a new barline (I often write open meter music) it remains selected no matter what key(s) I press and I have to grab the mouse and click off of it somewhere. What am I missing?
Thank you for any help.

If Tab doesn’t work, I sometimes Shift+arrow and, once something else is selected, I then keep navigating past the selection with just the arrow key.

Not sure if that works from a barline though.

Hi @aaalto, there is also a (customisable) Select None key command: Command+D

Also, if you want to write music with the barline selected, instead of using Enter (that opens the Time Signature popover), you can use Shift+N (Note input) which activates the caret (and deselects the barline). (You can then move the caret position in full bars increments using Command+left or right arrow).
