How to not install Steinberg AAX Plugins on OSX?

I see that there are Steinberg AAX plugins installed on my computer in

/Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins/Steinberg

I do not want this, as I do not use Pro Tools.

How can I remove these? Will manually deleting them cause havoc?

How can I avoid this?

I added a feature-request tag because in 2025 this should not happen.

Please let users select which type of plugins they want to install, thanks.

Hey there - you can delete the entire /Library/Application Support/Avid folder completely without affecting Cubendo at all

Part of my normal clean-up process is to delete this folder in addition to AU, VST (not VST3 of course), and others after installing/updating various vendor apps.

Agreed that SDA should have a flag/config for plug-in format selection like many others do. UAD is the worst I’ve seen for this - they install everything without options as well, and they won’t change that, even the “Pro Tools” folder in your Documents (and they alter actual system permissions on it, which is ridiculous) so I just get into the habit of cleaning it all up myself.

Why are we picking on UAD when Waves exists?

Fair. Writing new permissions to the user Documents folder to prevent one from deleting the Pro Tools folder was what earned my angst. Well, that and any number of other serious issues with usability, privacy, misinformation, support, etc

Yes, developers should really stop thinking that everybody has an on-the-edge workstation (I mean, in general, not only Steinberg).

Hopefully, the Steinberg team reads this thread and add the option to not install something that nobody needs. Bitte!
