How to record automation in Key Editor track?

What I’ve tried and works:
Select a MIDI track, activate the “R” and “W” icons to set automation recording, hit “record” and move the VSTi’s parameter I want to automate (or use the modwheel of my MIDI controller". It adds a Lane to track with the correct automation.

What I actually want*
How can I record the automation so that it does not create a new lane in the main view, but it records an automation in the Key Editor? I keep seeing this (Modulation CC 1) empty, but I want my automation the recorded here:

It’s not mix Automation that is written in the midi editors, it’s midi CCs (Continuous Controllers) that is recorded

Simply hit record and and move the modulation wheel.
