Hi everyone,
I was trying to re record CC data on a MIDI part that already had notes and CCs in it. The idea was just to keep the notes and change the CCs.
But when I tried it, Cubase kept playing the old CCs during the recording, so I was hearing both the old and new CC data at the same time. It wasn’t really replacing the CCs nor it was practical. I also tried changing the MIDI record mode to “Replace”, but that removed both the notes and the CCs when recording, which I didn’t want either.
After testing and reading some other posts in the forum, I found a way to make it work:
First, go to Preferences > Record > MIDI, and under “Replace Record in Editors”, set it to “Controller”. This makes only the CCs get replaced when recording in the editor. If it’s set to “None” or “All”, it won’t behave correctly.
Then, in the lower transport zone, set the MIDI record mode to “Replace”. This makes sure that CCs are actually replaced and not merged with the old ones.
Finally, make sure to start the recording from inside the MIDI editor. The record button inside the editor has to be red. If you start recording from the main project window, it won’t work the same way.
With these steps, Cubase will let you re-record CC data without touching the notes, and it will only play back the new CCs while recording.
This is the solution I found. If anyone knows a better or easier way to do this, feel free to share.
Tbh, I just wished this could be done directly with retrospective record, like being able to play, move the CCs, and have only the new ones take effect without hearing the old ones
