How to record Windows 11 output with loopback

Could Steinberg make a statement here?

We are not talking about some rocket science plugin here or something, just simple recording.

Indeed but IMHO you may be barking up the wrong tree. The problem is very likely to not be due to Wavelab 11.

In Wavelab 12, for example, it’s possible to record in the manner you have described with no issues and you’re right it’s not rocket science. It just works. AFAIK it’s the same in Wavelab 11.

Using a similar setup to the one you described above:

Wavelab 12 records from the PC with no issues whatsoever. Here’s the proof:

I’d suggest again that your issues are almost certainly due to how you have set things up in Windows.

In Windows 11, take a look in Settings>System>Sound>More sound settings. Is Stereo Mix enabled? In Stereo Mix>Properties>Advanced, how have you set up the Exclusive Mode properties?

You keep insisting that it works in Audacity. I insist that it’s not the same thing. In Audacity you are NOT using the PC audio resources in the same manner.

AFAICT there is no problem with recording from the PC in Wavelab.

Still not working here. Ok, you made the proof, that it works in principle. Good job!
So what is going on here?
And why does the sound output stop everytime Wavelab is started?

Ok, with very high probability the issue has to do with the interface to the amplifier (Denon PMA-1700NE). It is connected via optical fibre.

The issue with output stopping has been resolved when deaktivating the exclusive mode.

But recording is still not possible here.

WaveLab records from hardware devices but does not include a loop-playback-capable driver that can record the output of a given device driver. However, some tools are available that provide this functionality. One was mentioned earlier in this thread.

Ok, thx.
… still questioning why there is no standard loopback-capable-driver in WL in the year 2024.

But ok, it’s solved in principle.
Thx

You could maybe try de-activating ‘Allow application to take exclusive control of this device’.

done - yes, the interruption is gone.

ok, if you want, you can install Session Wire, get it for free from here.

You can see a tutorial by Chris Selim here on YT.

I think some of the “pro” audio interfaces don’t have the loopback function.
