How to record Windows 11 output with loopback

Hello,

I would like to use Wavelab 11 to record some YouTube-videos via loopback.
How to setup Wavelab 11 for loopback?

It works flawlessly in Audacity

@Sunnyman you don’t need loopback if you are using the Steinberg built-in ASIO Driver. The settings in your screenshot should work. Try the following:

  • click on the record button on the Wavelab transport.
  • in the Record window Method section make sure the Input is set to the Realtek Audio Stereomix bus. Choose the record format and make other settings as appropriate.
  • in the Record window click on the Options tab and de-activate ‘Activate Monitoring when opening Record Window’ to avoid any feedback loops.
  • in the Record window click on the Pause button to activate Record standby.
  • start playback from You Tube.
  • in the Record window click on the Pause button a second time to start recording.

Thx, but nope, it does not work.

The pan-display (red/blue) moves all the time, even without any sound. I don’t know, why this is so.

So, no, this does not work.

In Audacity? it works.

It probably does work with regards to Wavelab. If you’re not seeing input the issue is almost certainly your settings within Windows. Take a look at your Sound settings within Windows and make sure that Stereo Mix is enabled under the Recording tab. Other than that, I have no further suggestions

Yeah but in Audacity you’re using Windows WASAPI.

P.S. just one final suggestion for troubleshooting, if the above doesn’t work. I note you have set your sampling rate in the control panel to 96k. It’s a shot in the dark, but try changing this - select 24-bit / 48k in Windows. And then record at the same sample rate in Wavelab.

I’d hasard a guess that this is due to extremely low level digital noise.

How can Wavelab be completely reset? I. e. erase all files and do a complete reinstall.

Uninstall and reinstall with download assistent is not enough.

Since it is working flawlessly with Audacity, this should not be an issue, imho.
It doesn not change anything, still not working.

I also notice, that whenever an audiostream is on and Wavelab gets started, the stream stops and has to be restartet. This is very annoying. It seems, that Wavelab somehow messes with internal datastreams.
Audacity, for instance, does not show this kind of odd behaviour.
Sorry for mentioning Audacity here so often, but I would expect from a professional software, like Wavelab, that it works without any such annoying problems.

As it stands now, I would not buy Wavelab again and can not recommend it.

Where did you read that WaveLab can stream audio from the internet?
This is not what WaveLab has been designed for.

Oh, ok, so it is not possible to record running audio with Wavelab?
Seriously?

I mean, we live in 2024 and this seems like a basic feature to me as a customer.

It is possible, if you really want to, with a pair of cable and an audio interface. But for this task, you do not need Audacity too, you have chrome extensions.

I just want to record some audio running from another application.
This does not seem like rocket science to me, though.

And also, when running an audio application, Wavelab should not interrupt the running audio, as it does here.

This seems like a bad design of data flow or I am missing a point here.

Please explain, why a software, the costs over 400€ should not be able to do so, while a free software, like Audacity (and others), can do this easily.

As I remember, in earlier times (around 2000), Wavelab could do this.
And now, 2024, this is not supposed to be?
Really? Who make such design decisions?

Well, I still want to believe, that Wavelab can do recording from another application.
We are talking about basic stuff here, imho.

Ableton has a feature to disable audio driver to allow other software to run. While Steinberg is having option to allow other apps to run.

Try this too
VB-Audio VoiceMeeter

Nice!
But where is the loopback-option in Wavelab???

In Audacity, it works (almost) out of the box, without any further installation of other software.
Honestly, I expect this from Wavelab, too!

Not needed, as can be seen by Audacity.
Don’t overcomplicate things.

Try the VB-Audio Voice Meeter, maybe it works for you.

Why? It does not seem to make sense here.
