How to reinsert rests that were accidentally removed

I used “remove rests” to get rid of annoying rests in the other voice in my drum kit part, and I didn’t realize that I accidentally wiped out many important rests in the main voice! Is there any way to reinstate them (either in a batch, or even one measure at a time?) Thanks!

There’s no “one click” solution for this, Daniel. You need to find the last note or rest in the voice that does appear, and deactivate the Ends voice property there. If you can’t find the right spot, you can send me the project and I can take a look for you.

Might I just comment on how uniquely, surprisingly, dedicatedly, supportively wonderful the Dorico team are? Daniel, who must be one of the busiest people in the world, offers to fix a project for a user. Not because there is a system fault but just because the user made a tiny mistake.

Can you select the whole system and it’s content, then Filter by Notes and Chords, then possibly further Filter by deselecting Grace Notes and Tuplets? Now you should be able to see activated “Start Voice” and “End Voice” properties. After deactivating them, your rests should re-appear.

Thanks Daniel! I agree w/ the comment on your helpfulness. I think I was able to clear up my problem; I wonder if there’s a better solution when there’s a persistent extra voice in percussion parts. Maybe the “ends voice” thing works better than it used to - I’ll give it another whack. The “remove rests” button is so tempting, but it can really wreak some havoc!

Thanks; this solved my similar problem. Tip: if you have a chord ending a voice, select the whole thing before switching off ‘ends voice’ as each individual note in the chord is otherwise capable of ending the voice and, perhaps confusingly, leaving that rest invisible that you need to restore.
