How to remove silence so it actually removes silence from the files?

Hi, so I was wondering how can I easily remove silence from audio files?
I know how to run the detect silence algo, which works but it only shortens the audio file locators and doesn’t delete anything.

So I started with using Bounce Audio. For files with no breaks of silence Bounce Audio works fine, but for files with breaks I have to do this process one at a time. Follow that up by deleting the old files from the Pool.
??
thanks

Yes, you basically got it already.
In the project you work with events, which are just references to files. If you remove silence on that level the file on the hard drive does not get altered.
Using the Bounce Selection function will create a new audio file incorporating the cuts you made. If you want to have one file, first move the cut events together, so that there is no pause between them, then select all of them, right-click → Create Audio Part. Then bounce that.

What I am looking for is the automation of the separate events, like I mentioned I can already use Bounce for longer sections but I want to cut up the smaller sections.

Reading your post I am not sure if you understand the concept on how Cubase deals with audio files. But I might be getting the wrong impression because, frankly, I don’t really understand you.
Can you maybe put up a few screenshots that show what is the problem?

WAV files don’t reduce in size when sections are silenced. They simply write a lot of zeroes where the silence is.

FLAC files become smaller.

So when opting to use WAV files with Cubase, the only option to save disk space (that I’m aware of) is to render the non silent sections as new separate WAV files, and delete the original one’s.

Ok, guys. I appreciate your efforts to answer my question.
Let me rephrase it for you:

I want the delete silence to chop up the audio files, the same as it shows in the Arranger (after removing silence). So that way the files will be reduced in size by chopping them up into smaller segments.

thanks

Ok, now I got it. And it is easy to do. Export Selected Events.

Ok, I tried that but it simply exports those events and leaves the old files as they were in the arranger - I don’t see any option to export them to a single new track as separate wav’s.

You can either select each event individually and bounce it one by one or use the Export Selected Events method, then delete the old stuff and re-import the new files.
Those are your options.

Try using Render in Place.

OK, I think that is the best option for now. It does what I want. It would be nice if there was less steps to do this.

This method might be useful for people who wants to minimize project space as much as possible and does not use tools such as offline processing and only uses the Mixer for effects processing.

Here is the full steps in case someone else wants to try it or is confused.

Select Audio(s)
Go to menu Audio ->Advanced->Detect Silence
Configure right settings but should be simple
Without losing the selection now right click go to Render Selection
Configure to render ‘as separate events’ and rest of settings to preference.
Now delete old track because Render creates a new track with new files.
Open Audio ‘Pool’, select remove unused to trash, and then finally delete and save project.

thanks

I agree: Remove silence, the Render in place, then (eventually) save as with option to remove unused audio.
