How to set up a tablature stave for extended range guitars (6+ strings)?

Hi! New Dorico user here, transitioning from Guitar Pro and Musescore.

I love all of the features so far, and I’ve got some great kontakt-based playback set up. Really enjoying it.

One question, though, has led me to making this account. I couldn’t find support on the topic. I’d like to do seven and eight string electric guitar tablature. I have an existing electric guitar track with tabs. I switched the clef to “tab”, and confusingly, got a 5-string tab with notes instead of numbers:

Ideally, I can recreate the view in Guitar Pro where the top stave is traditional music notation and the bottom stave is tablature, for fingering information (pic for reference).

Does anybody here know how to set this up?

Thanks for your time.

Reference Guitar Pro pic here, since new users can only put one image per post:

there is a 7-string guitar instrument available in dorico

something like this suit your needs?

Thank you @slateboy. This is actually the instrument that I’m using in the above screenshot. However, when I switch the clef to “tab”, I don’t get an actual guitar tab as pictured above. Your screenshot looks perfect (and thanks for matching my random melody, haha). I’m just not quite sure how to get to that.

You do not need to change the clef. Insted go to layout options>Players>Fretted instruments and select under guitar “Notation and tablature”.
