How to set up midi transformer

What’s up guys!

I want to set up a transformer to invert the midi signals from my sustain pedal. Right now, my issue is that when I press the pedal down, it sends 0s, and as I lift, it goes all the way back up to 127. Essentially, the polarity of the pedal is messed up which is why everything is sustained now if I don’t press down the pedal.

How can I fix this?

FYI: I’m on a Native Instruments Kontrol S88 MK3 and a Yamaha FC3.

Hi,

Filter Target
( Type Is | Equal | Controller | And
Subtype [MIDI Controller No.] | Equal | 64 (Sustain) )

Action Target
Main Value | Mirror | 64

Function
Transform

This should work for you.

The easier thing to do would be to change the configuration in your MK3 keyboard.

I don’t have one in my studio anymore, but I remember, there’s a setting to reverse the polarity of the pedal inputs. You just have to navigate to the settings page for the pedal inputs.

Optionally you can also change the pedal port into “switch” mode. And in that case it would always only send 0 or 127, rather than all the values between 0 and 127, depending on how far you press the pedal.

I always allow the whole range to be sent, since most receiving instruments will be ok with that and some are even doing good things with it, like facilitating a piano half pedalling technique.

I copied this word for word, and it didn’t work/

I know what you’re referring to. On the S88 screen there is a menu where you can “invert” pedals. Unfortunately, this doesn’t do anything. So it seems like NI had a good idea, but it doesn’t work for me.

Actually, I think that @Martin.Jirsak screenshot refers to the Transformer as a MIDI insert (he’ll correct me if I’m wrong).

The Input transformer (which transform MIDI incoming messages) is directly available in the track inspector (on the right of the Input routing dropdown list) and should show 4 modules available on top of the window : be sure that the one you’ll be using is active (box ticked). Normally, @Martin.Jirsak solution should work, then.

I’m not in my studio right now but I think the actual foot pedal has a polarity switch if I’m not mistaken.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t :frowning:

Hi,

Did you set MIDI CC No. to 64? On the screenshot, there is No. 1.

Have you filed a bug report with Native Instruments? If not, you should.
