How to speed up tempo of multiple events but maintain their bars+beats relationship

I have been using Cubase for over 25 years, but I still don’t understand why this is so convoluted. I use several DAWs and in Ableton this is totally trivial…Anyway, Im hoping I’m overlooking something obvious.

How can I make audio events behave in the same way that MIDI events do when they are both in Musical Mode?

In this example I have both MIDI and Audio in Linear mode. The ruler is set to bars+beats.

at 120BPM, they are lined up:

At 140 BPM, they both shift but are still together. This is expected behavior:

But here’s the issue. If I switch them both to Musical mode, in 120BPM they are both lined up:

At 140BPM, I would expect the events to remain in the same position. The MIDI file does stay the same, but the audio events start where they should but are stretched:

The only way that I know to keep the audio lined up with the midi would be to manually timestretch each event. What am I missing?

Why do I want to do this? I have a project with hundreds of events and I just want to bump up the BPM and keep everything synced up. Thanks for any help!

It’s the usual devil in the details of words.

The clock and note symbols refer to Time Linear and Musical Timebase, and affect the starting position of events.

What you want (Musical Mode) only applies to Audio. In your last picture for example, you see that MIDI is still aligned ok, because that’s what MIDI does. But to activate Musical Mode for the audio, you either do it from the Info Line, or you go to the Pool and check the box for each audio clip. Once you do that, Audio events will follow tempo changes the same way MIDI does.

Hi,
here is a nice overview which sums up the most common use cases and the interaction between timebase and musical mode by @raino

Yes-musical mode! I remember in the past being able to switch the audio in the pool like you mentioned. That option doesn’t seem to be there in the pool anymore? Is there a way to default that audio will be in musical mode?

EDIT: ah, found the issue. Musical Mode was hidden in my pool. I found the setting to display it. Working now. Thanks!
