How to split a note in the score editor

I can see in the manual there is a section on the “cut notes” tool and I did read this but I was wondering if there was any other way to cut notes in the score editor. By using the Cut Notes tool I get a tie and then I have to cut the tie so I was wodnering if there is some other way that you can just divide the note without getting any tied note?

The Cut Note tool deals with the display of notes, and has no effect on midi.

What is the goal? To turn one midi note into two midi notes?

Hi Steve. The goal is to cut a half note into two quarter notes.

I’m sure there are many ways to do it, including splitting the note in the Key Editor, but I like to stay in the Score Editor when possible, so mine is to:

  • Set quantize to 1/4 note
  • Select the note
  • do key command: Nudge End Left (Shortens by the Quantize value)
  • run macro:
