Hello, I am trying to add the word “optional” underneath the word Piano on the first page of my choral arrangement. I was able to set up a text box using Engrave mode and adjusted it to the proper size, but don’t know how to type the actual text into the box. Am I on the right path?
I’d recommend instead doing this by editing the piano’s instrument name, and putting “optional” on a new line, perhaps in italics too.
Adding a text frame only shows that text on that page, and it won’t move if the music moves.

Do you mean a “text box” in the player’s list/instrument name, or an independent “text block” on the page?
An independent text box that I can place anywhere in the arrangement.
It depends: if you want to anchor some text to the music (moving with it), you create it in Write Mode and use Shift-X
If you want a chunk of text on the page (not moving with the music, you go to Engrave Mode and make a Text Frame and type into it:
