How to upgrade to Dorico 6

Dorico tells me I should install Version 6. When I follow the link to the site and sign-in, there is a box that says, “Redeem download Access Code.” I don’t know what that is, and if I have that somewhere, I don’t know where.

What should I do?

Dorico 6 is a paid upgrade from v5. Have you purchased the upgrade?

Dorico isn’t telling you that you should install Dorico 6: it’s informing you that Dorico 6 is available, and gives you a button you can click that takes you to our web site so you can find out more about it.

Ignore the word “should.” If it is a paid upgrade, I will be happy to pay. It is not obvious on the site what I need to do next. “Purchase Upgrade” would be clear.

Allow me to rephrase: what is the next step to purchase?

If you go to dorico.com, there’s a red button that says “Buy Dorico”. Then you have to click through and find the particular item that you want – I’m guessing the update from Dorico Pro 5.

I love Dorico and think the staff is wonderful. As a former software designer, however, I know that we often think things are obvious because we know the answer, while users often have to idea what to do. Watching users in a usability lab with one of my products was very humbling for me.

I just upgraded my cable and Internet, and spent a total of two hours on the phone with four different people because no one thought to say, “Oh–you have to take the new remote and push that unmarked black circle.” I sort of felt stupid but also sort of felt that they could have told me that.

Hi, I am a bit confused about what should I do regarding versions and upgrades. I’m using Dorico 5.1.81.2225 (just checked in “about Dorico”). I saw some features that were apparently added to Dorico 6 which I would like to access. So I went to Steinberg’s site looking for an upgrade. The thing is: when I sign in and check my products, it actually says I own Dorico 6 and it is in use (or so I understand), but I don’t find any button for downloading it (see attached). Can you help me figure out (1) whether I actually own Dorico 6 or not; and (2) how can I install it and replace Dorico 5. Thanks in advance.

The easiest way is to open the Steinberg Download Assistant, which will show you all your licensed products, and let you download them.

Welcome to the Forum.

For downloading and installing your products you need to start the Download Assistant. That is an application you have on your machine.

If you haven’t used it for a long time you should first install the latest version of it, because there was an update several weeks ago, to add new certificates. You can find the update here.

The Steinberg Download Assistant has a left column where you see an area “My Products” and there you see an icon for “Dorico 6”. Click on that and on the right hand side you can download and install all products included with Dorico.

Dorico 6 will be installed next to Dorico 5, the previous release will be kept. You can later decide if you want to remove the older release or just keep it, so you can use it again if needed for whatever reason.

Thanks, all working fine. Have a nice day.
