How to use headphones with Dorico on Macbook Pro

I have a 2020 Macbook Pro running Dorico 2. I’d like to be able to use the headphone jack on my computer to hear the sound output of Dorico. When I plug in headphones it continues to play sound through the comptuter speakers. If I create an aggregate or multi output device then I lose the ability to control the volume from anywhere other than the mixer in Dorico and the volume is very quiet, even when maxed out. Is there a way that I can just plug in my headphones and use them with Dorico the same way that I would use headphones with any other software?

If you go to Edit > Device Setup and in there click on the Device Cotnrol Panel button, do you see a checkbox name Automatically Configure Devices? That option should be ticked.

I wonder whether the issue here is that Dorico 2 will be using an older version of the CoreAudio2ASIO component that doesn’t have proper support for switching between different outputs on the same Mac?

This is something that has been improved in more recent versions of Dorico, so this might be one more reason to consider updating from Dorico 2 to Dorico 5.

i installed the dorico 5 trial and it seems to be working now, thanks

i am connected to my Jbl headphones its a type c cable and i still hear from my mac speakers !

Have you followed Ulf’s advice above?

Go to Edit > Device Setup, and in Device Control Panel, choose “Automatically Configure devices”.

Welcome to the forum, @Wageh .

Your problem is that in the Device Setup dialog you are still set to “Built-in Audio” . Click there on the down arrow to show the pop-up list of available devcies and then choose your JBL.

And @benwiggy , the “Automatically Configure Devices” option is already tick marked with Wageh.
