How to use pads for drums with the Launchkey 37 MK3 and Cubase 12?

Hi all,

I’m using Cubase 12 Pro with my Novation Launchkey 37.

The midi remote script seems to be ok but I don’t understand how can I use the Launchkey pads for drums.

If the midi remote script is active the pads only let me mute/solo tracks. I can’t use the pads for drums and I have to disable the script.

Is there an other way to proceed ?

Once a specific control is connected to the midi remote, it stops being connected to a track. That’s a feature by design, since you don’t want notes to play when you push a button that’s intended to mute or solo a track.

I don’t have a similar Novation Device in my collection, so I can’t give a very specific answer. But in general terms, I can think of two different approaches to deal with this:

  • Disconnect the pads that are supposed to be your drum pads from being assigned in the MIDI Remote environment.

  • If possible, configure the Launchkey, so the pads send their notes on a different midi channel (that is hopefully not also assigned in the MIDI Remote)

Thanks a lot for your answer Nico5.

I have to check now if your second solution is possible and how to do that.

A least now I understand how midi remote works !
