How to use the Punchlight recording lamp USB in Cubase 13 Pro?

I want to give the singer or guitarist an optical hint to when recording starts.
I unboxed the recording lamp USB from Punchlight today and thought: this is rather expensive but when it works, okay.
It doesn’t t work.
After connecting the lamp into my iMac 27 (running Sonoma 14.7.4), I saw the red light flashing, so it works and is powered by the computer.
But the lights don’t go on when arming a track or recording.
The installation software/app from punch light can’t be opened on my iMac. The description in the manual is for Windows XP, by the way. Seems to be a little out of date.
But I heard that iMac and Cubase recognise the lamp and I don’t need an installation software like in Windows.
I can see in iMac’s midi studio that a punch light midi device with two midi ins and outs were created.

Anyone got experience with this lamp and can help?

Hi,

If I’m not mistaken, the Punchlight lamp is using either Mackie Control or Mackie HUI protocol. So add one of these Remote Devices in the Studio Setup, set the MIDI Out port to the Punchlight lamp and you are ready to go.

Okay, I’ll try this. Thanks!

Okay, I added a Mackie HUI device and set its MIDI OUT port to “PunchLightLAMP punchLight Out”. That’s what I found in the MIDI port options, I didn’t create that port.

The only thing that happened after this: the recording lamp went on GREEN and stay green, no matter if I arm a track, record a track, disarm a track or simply play the project. It went green once and then stays green.
The lamp can be customised to edit the colours and to follow the metronome. How can I do this if the lamp doesn’t switch to red when starting a recording? How do I change any parameters?

According to the manual you will need to run the configuration software and set the device to HUI Mode for use in Cubase.

If the app doesn’t run on your machine I suggest you contact their support.
