I am trying to work on one flow at a time in my project. I saw this advice on this forum: Put each flow into a layout, as follows:
”Create new Score Layouts.
Select each new layout (in the right panel) and deselect all flows except one (in the bottom panel).
You get the idea. Layout 1 = Flow 1, Layout 2 = Flow 2, etc.
Now to work on one flow only, select its Layout from the Dropdown Menu (at the top).”
However when I try to select a layout I can’t open it; the only option I get is to rename it. I do have one player in each flow. I am using Dorico SE6. Thank you.
Well, if it helps you concentrate on one flow only, there’s nothing against it. I’m considering this exact workflow right now, because I get tired of scrolling (too fast, being impatient) past where i wanted to look at. In Dorico, you can have as many layouts as you want, with whatever choice of flows and players you want. I often have several ‘working layouts’, never intended for publication, just to see what I need to see in a certain phase of the project.
Go into setup mode, from the bottom panel select only the flow you want to work with. (I’d advise working in galley mode until done with all flows before you worry about how it looks in page view or do any work in engraving mode).
I was trying to do everything: notes, chord diagrams, and page layout. James suggested working in galley view until I am done with the music, and adjusting on page layout at the end. That seems to be working better than trying to get each page layout and music perfect at the same time. Thanks for your reply.
This is the easiest way to work in Dorico (though you might prefer the new fill view more than galley view). Certainly do not worry about prettifying layouts until everything you want to see has been input.
Then, if you have set your layout options appropriately and have your Page Templates set up, there should be very few manual adjustments needed to get your layouts looking good.
