This might have something to do with how Cubase assigns CPU threads per track.

Try spreading out the Cubase version across more tracks and see if it makes a difference.

Inserts on FX rather than on Instrument track provide much greater performance

I thought I would show the results of some experimenting I was doing while recording earlier. After reading that the only way to utilize sperate processor cores, was to have inserts on a different track, I set up all of my projects and track archives with the inserts off of audio and instrument tracks while recording.
