Hello
I know this topic was discussed earlier, but haven’t found any solution for this. I found some of cpr files are extremly big. After reading forums, and doing comparation I found it’s caused by Spectralayers as ARA extension. But the size is extremly high. I have in project only 1 wave file (24 / 44.1) originaly 300 MB larger, and with instance of ARA extension if makes CPR file with size 1.3 GB (what starts to be issue, when you have 10 bak files with the same size). But at the end I can’t get rid of the huge CPR file. I make the extension permanent, bounce audio, remove old wave files, back up project to different folder, the CPR still has 1.3 GB - with just one audio track with no edits, no automation, no ARA extension. This is crazy. Is it possible to reduce the file size ? Otherwise it makes all the Spectralayers integration useless.
had exactly the same issues when i first used spectral layers 7 and now i never ever use it anymore due to this exact thing, cant believe its not been fixed yet
the only time i use spectral layers now is standalone.
it would make more sense for the ara audio to be in a subfolder in the same way AUDIO is a subfolder, there should be a “ARA” folder
NOT audio saved in the .cpr file is daft! (apparently its the ARA standard for Portability)
I ran into the same issue recently. (in Nuendo12 )
I unmixed 3 variation of a short song, .npr file is now over 256mb.
I removed everything I could find from the project, (Audio files, Tracks,), saved as new, closed and reopened Nuendo ( to clear the undo list ) , opened with Nuendo 11 on a different machine without spectral layers installed…file size stays ridiculously large for an empty project.
This ads one more point to a growing list of “gold standard features” to use with caution
(ARA, EUCON, VCA, DOP, Automation, aaf import), especially If I dare to use a larger project.
I am also under the impression that these things have less and less chances to be fixed, as more and more variants of the “same thing” are selled as seperate products.
A little bit of speculation here, but as tight as Spectral layers seems to be integrated in Cubase/Nuendo, a “fix” will presumably have to be tested in Dorico and VST-Live as well.
Cheers,
Dirx
Thanks to your post I looked at the project I am currently working on, having used Spectral Layers as an ARA-Extension there as well.
Yeah, the file size of the project jumped from 1.5MB to 74MB.
That’s already not good but even worse: In the project I tried to remove any traces of the files that were used by the Extension. Used Bounce and Mixdown for creating new audio files. Removed all files touched by SL from the Pool (though not deleting them on the hard drive).
Result: Project file stays bloated at 74MB.
Conclusion: ARA-Extension share a trade with malware. Once you touch them you can’t get rid of them.
When will this bug be fixed? Even in the latest version of Cubase 13, the CPR files are still consuming my disk space.
Working on the Nuendo 13, still same issue.
