I am totally confused and scared about the "new" way of licensing

Dear friends,
don’t blame me for maybe asking a series of stupid questions, there are probably answers to these questions somewhere…but…
Due to some life reasons, I was absent from the world of music for almost 3 years…During that time I had no contact with my instrument, computer, and also with software. All that said, I’m not from an English speaking area, I’m using google translate, so I hope you’ll understand me…
I am a big fun of Steinberg’s software, a long-time registered user. I currently have the following software properly registered:
Cubase Pro 11 Product activated on 05/12/2021
HALion 6 Product activated on 23/02/2018
Basic FX Suite Rev.2 Product activated on 19/04/2016
HALion Symphonic Orchestra - VST Sound Instrument Set Product activated on 16/02/2014
Cubase SL 3 Product activated on 01/03/2012
Virtual Guitarist Electric Edition Product activated on 28/12/2006
UR44 USB Audio Interface Product activated on 28/12/2006
After this multi-year break, I started playing music again, but I am confused and scared to learn that at the beginning of 2025, the old way I registered the software ends and only the new way remains, which is not very clear to me. I will certainly try to read (translate) as many texts as possible that deal with that topic, but I am asking you to answer just a few questions for me here, and to eventually dispel my fears…

  1. Please tell me, if I want to switch to that new way (from eLicenser service to Steinberg Licensing), does that mean I have to buy all the new versions of the software I already own and bought before?! I hope not, because that would be too much…
  2. I have seen in several places that they mention some vouchers that registered users get, for free upgrade to newer versions. I don’t think I got anything like that. How and where can I check this?
  3. Is it possible that despite years of loyalty to Steiberg, I will not be able to use their software if I cannot fulfill all the requirements by the end of 2024?!
Please, help me, I need clear and quick answers, so that I have a clear picture of what I need to do, and so that I can (hopefully) finish everything on time. I really appreciate your efforts and willingness to help me, I thank you all in advance.

Check the steinberg website. they have a 50% off sale at the moment.

First of all, your current products will not stop working. As long as your USB eLicenser is ok and not lost you will be able to use at indefinitely.

However, as soon as the eLicenser service, sometime beginning 2025, is shutdown, you will not be able to update products. Also you can not move licenses to another USB stick or modify them in some other way. The dongle will simply keep working.

Well, you do not need to buy them completely again, but yes, to get to the Steinberg Licensing you need some later releases.

What you need to do is to update them, to a much lower price. As a long time Steinberg user you should have a bunch of vouchers in your online profile, that give you 70% discount on the products you update.

You should have a 70% voucher in your online profile, to update this to Cubase 13.

This needs to be updated to HALion 7 to the normal update price. I don’t know where you live and what currency you have, here in Europe the update price is 99,99 Euros.

This will be updated by Steinberg before the end of the eLicenser service.

Not sure if this is updated automatically or if you need to buy it.

This will keep on working, as long as your USB eLicenser is working. But it will not be changed for Steinberg Licensing.

This is not supported anymore (for some years now) and will not be changed. It will also work as long as your eLicenser works.

This has nothing to do with Steinberg Licensing, it is a piece of hardware and will work as long as the hardware is ok.

Login to your mySteinberg account on the Steinberg Website and go to the vouchers section in your profile.

No, that is a misunderstanding. As I said, your products will keep on working, as long as your USB eLicenser is fully functional and you did not lose it.

If you want to update one of your products after the service has been shutdown you need to buy the new releases for the full price, so getting them with 70% discount is definitely the best you can do at the moment.

Unfortunately, when I go to the link MySteinberg account: Vouchers, the system displays a message “No voucher available”
It seems to me that there is something wrong…?!

Please make sure that you’re signed-in to the correct MySteinberg account, and that your USB-eLicenser is registered.

You can see all of your registered eLicensers and eLicenser-based product licenses here:
https://o.steinberg.net/index.php?id=9073&L=1

To clarify, the 70% discount voucher is only available for owners of the following licenses:
Cubase Pro 13, Dorico Pro 5, WaveLab Pro 12, Nuendo 13

It can only be used to purchase a full version of the following products:
Cubase Pro 13, Dorico Pro 5, WaveLab Pro 12, Absolute 6

The voucher cannot be applied when purchasing an update, unfortunately.

I thought this applies to all longtime users, Independent of the current release.

However there is still the 50% Discount without Voucher.

Yes, I’m logged into my account, I see all my listed registered products, I see both of my USB keys…but no voucher. Long story short, I should upgrade from Pro 11 to Pro 13 for 50% of the price. And since I have Halion 6, I need to upgrade that too to H 7. However, if I understand correctly, I can do a crossgrade from Halion 6 to Absolute 6, which would give me Halion 7, but also a bunch of other software that I don’t have. Instead of 99 eur, I should pay 175 eur. And then I would automatically have Pro 13 registered under the new system, but also Halion 7 and everything that goes with Absolut 6. The question remains what will happen to HALion Symphonic Orchestra - VST Sound Instrument Set, since I bought it as a complement to Halion, no like stand alone software, Is this all correct as I wrote?

If I switch to Cubase Pro 13 and register it immediately, do I then have a voucher with which I can buy the full version of Absolute 6 (until September 25)? Because, if so, then it would cost me 150 euros, instead of 175 for the crossgrade,

Yes.

That must have been a sweet dream.

I think your cubase pro 11 licence is crace period eglible since its activated on 05/15/2021. So you should get pro 13 for free.

Here is the some info from from the past:

Due to the upcoming change to a new, more user-friendly license management system, the release of Cubase 12 will be postponed to 2022. The exact date has not been set yet. Nevertheless, the Grace Period for Cubase 12 already starts on November 10! **This means that as soon as Cubase 12 has been released, any Cubase 11 license activated after November 9, 2021 can be updated to the corresponding Cubase version (Cubase Pro 12, Cubase Artist 12 or Cubase Elements 12) for free. A license is considered activated when it has been downloaded via the eLicenser Control Center after entering a valid activation code and saved on a USB-eLicenser (Cubase Pro 11, Cubase Artist 11) or in a Soft-eLicenser on the hard disk (Cubase Elements 11). We will inform you about the technical details of the free Grace Period Update in due time.

Hello, my CUBASE 8.5 and all my plugins (300GB) are on W7-64bits on a very big PC with 128GB of Ram, to upgrade to Cubase 13 I have to upgrade to W11-64bits, but the Motherboard does not accept it, I have to throw everything away and rebuild a PC, I don’t like your story!

Think whatever calendar you are using is backwards… Both his own May 15th registration as well as the Nov 9th grace period starting are clearly stated. If that were true he’d have a voucher for it sitting in his account for 2 years now.

But thats 5th December?

You are correct, didn’t notice the rest of his dates were written in Euro format…

If that is the case, he should have already gotten his grace period offer the minute he opened up his Steinberg Licensing application and signed into his account, the same way the rest of us got them when 12 and the new Licensing app came out.

I got my grace period update by opening “E licencer control center” and by running “maintenance task”. After that I did go through these steps.

At the end I got pro 13 up and running.

This is why I shouldn’t post early in the morning before coffee haha. Forgot all about that part! It always prompted you to run maintenance, but for dongle users, once your key was activated, you never needed it unless you updated it. I can totally see just leaving it alone and not opening it.

Folks that may also be in the same situation should fire up those eLicenser apps ASAP and take advantage of any of those old codes you might be saving! Some people used to save those for quite awhile before they would finally redeem them, waiting for the right features or fixes to show up before using it… Hopefully nobody forgot they’re still holding on to one!

OP, you will still be able to use 11, until the dongle stops working of course, but get that updated NOW so at least it wont cost you a fortune to upgrade later on down the line You’ll have your foot in the door ‘for free’ now with both paths available.

I finally came home and now I’m trying to check if I have a valid grace period for one of the licenses… I found an instruction on the net, it explained how to do it, I did an upgrade for Steinberg download as, Steinberg was also automatically installed activation manager. But, when I run St.Act.manager-nothing happens, I just get a blank window with nothing in it:

Looks like I’m going to struggle in this transition process… :frowning:
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

This happens not to be the case.
