So I finally bit the bullet and bought Absolute because the loyalty price was hard to resist. But I’m confused. In Halion, I’ve been unable to find simple 808 kicks and basses? Surely, I must be doing something wrong? I mean, 808 booms are arguably the most popular sound in all of mainstream music now. Is it possible that Steinberg simply just didn’t include them? I should hope not. And if they are not in Halion, then where are they? After all this is called “absolute.” I hope to learn that I’m doing something wrong. I would be shocked if these sounds are not in a system called “absolute.”
I would suggest starting with Backbone and see if you find something suitable.
For kicks I would have looked at GrooveAgent first, certainly HALion.
In Halion, with HS Factory library, you have the 8o8 Studio Kit preset.
With HALion, GA and Backbone, it is impossible that you will not find ONE kick that does not come close to the sound of the 808. If not, one that could suit your needs.
Also, on the Internet, you will find lots of 808 samples that you can download, even for free, and easily use with any of these three VSTis.
Happy searching!
