I can record but I cannot hear the playback

Hope all is well

I am a songwriter trying to be able to record and mix my songs

I have CUBASE AI9 version 9.0.40 connected to a Yamaha MG16XU thru the USB

I can record but I cannot hear the playback

I believe all is set properly but obviously not everything

Any suggestion

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Have you set up your audiointerface following this tutorial?

Please make sure to download the latest ASIO driver and firmware from Yamaha, too.

Can you upload a screenshot of your routing, please? Also, make sure that the monitor button on your audio track is disabled after recording in order to hear the newly recorded signal.
Can you hear other signals or is it just the newly recorded audio track?

Curiously I am able to hear something coming from YouTube in the Yamaha thru headphones but not the playback from CUBASE
I will check what you suggested and get back to you once I tried that

thanks for the screenshots. French would have been just fine, no need to change the language in Cubase

Your setup looks good to me apart from one thing: If you want to record a mono signal like vocals with a single mic you should set up a mono input channel, too. Right now, there’s just a stereo channel.
You can do that under VST Connexions > Entrées - Ajouter Bus > Mono (it might be helpful to have the channel number in the name of the input).

Now, please add a new audio track and make sure that it’s set to mono and that the input matches the name that you have just applied to your new mono input. Of course, your mic must use the same physical input.
If you arm the track and enable the monitor button you should be able to see a signal in Cubase on the track. If that’s not the case: what kind of mic do you use? If it’s a condenser microphone you will need 48v phantom power to be turned on. You’ll find a 48V button on your Yamaha mixer.
But let’s take it from there.

Hi,

I assume that your problem derives from incorrect routing (missing mono input, selected input channel in Cubase).
Your monitor button is deactivated on your Voix track and there doesn’t seem to be a signal in the first place. If you follow the advice from before you should be able to get a signal on the track.
