I can record but I cannot hear the playback

Hope all is well

I am a songwriter trying to be able to record and mix my songs

I have CUBASE AI9 version 9.0.40 connected to a Yamaha MG16XU thru the USB

I can record but I cannot hear the playback

I believe all is set properly but obviously not everything

Any suggestion

Have you set up your audiointerface following this tutorial?

Please make sure to download the latest ASIO driver and firmware from Yamaha, too.

Can you upload a screenshot of your routing, please? Also, make sure that the monitor button on your audio track is disabled after recording in order to hear the newly recorded signal.
Can you hear other signals or is it just the newly recorded audio track?

Curiously I am able to hear something coming from YouTube in the Yamaha thru headphones but not the playback from CUBASE

thanks for the screenshots. French would have been just fine, no need to change the language in Cubase

Your setup looks good to me apart from one thing: If you want to record a mono signal like vocals with a single mic you should set up a mono input channel, too. Right now, there’s just a stereo channel.
You can do that under VST Connexions > Entrées - Ajouter Bus > Mono (it might be helpful to have the channel number in the name of the input).

Now, please add a new audio track and make sure that it’s set to mono and that the input matches the name that you have just applied to your new mono input. Of course, your mic must use the same physical input.
If you arm the track and enable the monitor button you should be able to see a signal in Cubase on the track. If that’s not the case: what kind of mic do you use? If it’s a condenser microphone you will need 48v phantom power to be turned on. You’ll find a 48V button on your Yamaha mixer.
But let’s take it from there.

Hi,

I assume that your problem derives from incorrect routing (missing mono input, selected input channel in Cubase).
Your monitor button is deactivated on your Voix track and there doesn’t seem to be a signal in the first place. If you follow the advice from before you should be able to get a signal on the track.

The ST needed to be pushed in for the output from CUBASE to go thru

Yes, the ST button (Stereo Out) is the equivalent to the Stereo Out channel in Cubase as you surely know by now. However, I thought you had no incoming signal in Cubase. Therefore, I barked up the wrong tree.
Just a FYI - end of summer sales are about to end. If you wanted to upgrade - now would be the time (AI to Elements just 30€).

Yes, that’s no problem. Updates for AI are free of charge so technically speaking it’s an upgrade from AI 15 to Elements 15.

Cubase LE and AI to Modern Cubase license update

Hi! Nice to meet all of you. I would like to ask question how to update Cubase AI 11 to Cubase AI 12. I have got registered Cubase AI 11 (bought it with steinberg ur22 mkii) - it works well. But for Cubase AI 12 I need new activation code. In download assistant list in “my products” I can see only Cubase AI 11. How and when can I receive activation code for Cubase AI 12?

BTW, I’m based in Germany. The upgrade price (29,99 Euro) from AI to Elements 15 is the same in France.
