I can’t download Etude!

Steinberg Download manager doesn’t work on my PC so I’ve used an old laptop for my downloads in the past.
Today I’ve just bought Etude but my old laptop is now dead. I tried downloading the newest v of Download Manager but it still doesn’t work. I was able to register Etude and it appears on my list of products but I can’t find anywhere to actually download it. In the Downloads page it isn’t listed in the “choose product” drop-down.

I think in Etude’s case you’re going to have to get the SDA working. As a HALion instrument at about 20gig, it’s not available via the “direct download” page.

I’ll presume your SDA is failing with a connection error, and I’ll further presume it’s IPv6 related. The very first thing I’d do is get something like Proton VPN to ensure IPv6 isn’t the issue. I’m not advocating that particular product, just relaying successful use by others.

I also experienced SDA connection issues once on a my test system, and I just kept ignoring the message over and over (maybe 5 times I think) and then it worked.

I’ve not seen any of actual libraries available via “direct download,” and think they should probably provide those, even if requiring a logon (which ultimately doesn’t matter since anyone can just post the vstsound files anywhere).

If that’s not what you mean by “SDA doesn’t work” maybe some more information would help?

Hi.
I’ve downloaded it on my wife’s PC and am just about to try and install it via a hard drive to my PC. I’ll check out your suggestion though this has been an issue for years and I think Steinberg should have solved it by now!

Right on. That should work fine. From casual observance of the recent changes to SDA and its implementation of Aria2 download components (most notably around java vm from what I saw) they’re taking it pretty seriously. IPv6 is implemented differently by ISP’s around the world, so it’s a challenge. I presume they’re having to use NAT64 on their AWS NAT gateways but I don’t really know. I don’t think they are using direct S3 access to their components. All speculation on my part, and it doesn’t really matter… just saying it looks like they’re continuing to work on it.

Hiya.
Whoosh! That was what you said going right over my head! I appreciate your reply but blimey, you’re more in the know than me!
Actually got Etude on my PC and it’s registered etc but doesn’t show up in Cubase. I know why, because it’s in the wrong folder. Any ideas which folder it should be in because there’s a few likely choices? !

Haha - sorry, that’s just tech nonsense saying “the SDA connection issues are complicated.”

But yeah, you mostly likely have a default root location for all your SB libraries. I have all mine in the default “Shared” user folder on my Macs (that way it’s consistent):

You can look at the details of any other library and you’ll see something similar. The good thing about Library Manager is that it doesn’t matter where each set of .vstsound files are in your bank. Once you copy them over to wherever, you can just double-click the .vstsound file in Finder/Explorer and SB Library Manager will automatically parse them and load them for you. That said, it’s probably best to put them with the rest of your others, but it’s not a technical requirement. Once they are where you ultimately want them, you can just “launch” them and SLM will handle it for you.

Also know that the SDA on your wife’s computer will actually leave the installation files intact. Meaning, you don’t have to copy the installed files on your wife’s system; you can just copy the INSTALLER files over and install them on your. Either works, really - but it may save time in the future
