I cannot connect my Akai LPK25 to my Cubasis 3 DAW on my 10th Generation iPad

I cannot connect my Akai LPK25 to my Cubasis 3 DAW on my 10th Generation iPad. I had observed a tutorial on YouTube that it’s compatible and should work. Can someone walk me through a step-by-step tutorial?

Hi Roger_Arbitrary,

Your keyboard usb out should connect directly to your iPad using a usb-c hub, but just in case things are not working properly, go to the App Store and download the free app called MIDI Wrench,

  1. launch it and start playing your keyboard, the monitor screen on Midi Wrench will show you if there is incoming data. I have to use this app to enable my Novation Impulse pitch bend wheel in Cubasis.
  2. Leave this app running in the background and open Cubasis, select a Midi track, the default instrument will be a piano
  3. Tap the Routing tab on the left column and make sure it is selected to All Inputs, you can select your keyboard if it is listed in the drop down MIDI Input window.
  4. Make sure the Midi track is not muted, it will be indicated by a yellow M on the left instrument column if it is.

All being well everything should work as expected, but if not, tap the keyboard tab on top left of screen, this opens the onscreen keyboard and this should will play the default piano.

Try these things first.

Mike

Thank you so much for the information. Unfortunately, it continues not to work. I’ve just concluded that I will mail this out to my son, who is way more ahead of me with production.

Sorry I couldn’t help you, but I would be interested to know if you do manage to find the problem and how you fixed it.

Good luck :clinking_beer_mugs:

Hi @Rogers_Arbitrary,

You might want to check back with our friends at AKAI for more details on properly connecting the Akai LPK25 to your iPad.

In most cases, it works best to use original Apple adapters or cables when connecting external devices and to avoid hubs or similar accessories.

Once the device is properly connected to your iPad, you may check out our dedicated Cubasis controller tutorial below.

Hope that helps!

Best regards,
Lars
