Hello folks,
I am on a new machine, and Widows 11 Pro, and I work with Cubase 14 now.
Here a strange phenomenon. I bought a new interface, the Focusrite Scarlet 4j4. Everything works except that… there’s no way to make it playback my MIDI tracks made in different VST plugins in my computer and through my DAW. I checked all busses, all outputs… it still doesn’t. My previous interface TC Electronic Impact Twin does it perfectly (but it is not supported anymore by the maker and has started to provoke bugs). And I work here and 20 years with my home recording with every upgrade of Cubase. I can’t imagine that a new generation interface would not recognize MIDI. So what’s the hic here? Could anyone give an idea ?
You’ll need to be more clear what the issue is…first you say playback…then you say not recognising midi…so is it the vst playback or is it midi input you don’t have working??
Well, I’m not sure what is not clear… I meant that the interface Focusrite Scarlet 4j4 doesn’t playback my MIDI tracks made in different VST plugins in my computer in my DAW. The MIDI tracks indicators show working but there’s no sound. I check all outputs, all busses, all correct, but still no sound. (If I use my previous interface, the TC Electronic Impact Twin, they play).
Do you have sound on audio tracks?
You can use tone generator plugin to test.
Interface not recognising midi would be midi input only, midi track to vst has nothing to do with the interface so routing issue seems most likely.
A screengrab of your routing setup would help …
Yes I have sound from all my audio tracks. But none of MIDI tracks plays.
You don’t have any audio outs connected so in theory you shouldn’t be hearing any audio at all.
As @Grim says - you need to connect your outputs from Cubase to your Focusrite ports. You’ll probably need to set up the Focusrite Control Panel properly as well (can be a little intimidating).
Ok, I found the problem. Yes, Focusrite was correctly set as the output for the Audio but not for the MIDI tracks. SO ny Audio was playing but not the MIDI. My MIDI tracks are sent to VST players, but they had to be routed and I was not finding where are the settings for their output routing, which after quite of a searching, I found. So, problem solved !
Thanks all for your feedback !
