When working on a large score, I can’t tell what bar I’m on without constantly scrolling to the top where the bar numbers are located. Is there a way to show the bar numbers regardless of where the view is focused?

Nope. It’s in the pipeline, but it doesn’t exist yet.
As a temporary workaround, and possibly only partial solution, you can use Layout Options in Setup mode to put bar numbers ‘under’ the bottom staff, though on my system, they are placed inside, rather than below the measure. But the numbers are at least present.
Yup this would be really handy, in fact being able to display them in multiple positions in the score (above each section ideally) would be very good indeed.
This is what I do for conductors scores anyways, and I like it a lot.
