I just CANNOT figure out the cursor and transports, it behaves erratically, space bar…. click space bar, stop… space bar start (and the cursor is now hell bent to start at bar 1) select a clip segment….. space bar (it deselects clip???) Tons of useless data on the tool bars ….. no quick transport. I can not be the only user trying to transition experiencing this am I? I spend more time configuring and setting up the infinite setting than being creative, or useful. I know it’s a good sized learning curve but … hold on yessssss I accept cookies …. Now where was I … why is the I/O not remembering my last set up?
these are the everyday of Nuendo.
I would like to upgrade but not if the workflow behaviors are like this. Did they get any better in 13 and 14?
Well, THAT one can be changed to instead start the cursor & transport right where you stopped…which is how I set things as a preference.
I’m not going to feed info on the menu to do that only because I’m not at the computer and don’t have the setting spot for that memorized ![]()
Hi,
There are many different ways the cursor can behave and they are all selectable/assignable to a key command.
You can have it start from last stop, start from current location, you can have it return to start position on stop, etc. and then you can have video follows edit on, which makes the cursor always follow selection, and then you have all these different behaviors interacting here and there.
If I were you, I’d assign key commands like I do:
Space bar: start from current possition.
Ctrl+space: start from last stop.
Shift+space: start from selection.
whatever: video follows edit toggle.
This way you quickly get used to different ways of starting the cursor and always have full control of it.
I don’t think theres tons of useless info on tool bars, but I know you can customize them, so do it.
I have no idea what quick transport is.
I/O are a bit of a pain, yes. Always have your setups save as presets so you can quickly recall them when needed.
I’m sure you are not the only one transitioning right now, and I know it can be frustrating. Nuendo has its own ways of approaching some stuff, so try to relax and learn how to work with it, instead of trying to make it work like your previous DAW. I think it will be a much better experience. The stuff you pointed out are pretty basic, I’m sure you’ll soon enough get over those and find much deeper and more infuriating stuff.
heheheh!
Sounds like you have inadvertently changed a transport setting. Check the cursor behavior in the transport drop-down menu.
I believe it’s a new default - same problem for me.
Transport (menu) > Start Mode (will list current mode here). Make sure “Return to start position” is not checked.
The other thing you could check which caught me because I stopped working on video about 5 years ago, check if you have engaged the Video Follows Editing mode under the Transport drop down menu. Default is Y.
Ctrl+alt+space: solo play of selection. Really handy.
oooh this is a nice one!
I’ll map it right now. Thanks!
EDIT: just saw it is a default key command. great!
remember the ‘0’ key will always ruturn to the start position. So space bar to stop where the cursor is mand then if you want, ‘0’ to return to starting point. I find this the best way of working.
