I have Cubase 9.5. So now if i upgrade 13 pro from 9.5 will i need dongle for 13 pro…?

Or do I have to get the new Cubase 13 Pro …? Which don’t need dongle…?

Yes, it is true!

No, for Cubase 13 you will not need the dongle anymore. During the process of upgrading your license, the old Cubase 9.5 license will remain on the dongle, and the new Cubase 13 license will be handled by Activation Manager.

Simply buy an upgrade from Cubase 9.5. As always, you do not need a full version if you own an older one.

The new Cubase 13 Pro will upgrade to a laptop. So it becomes difficult to handle the laptop by connecting the dongle. So when I go from 9.5 to Cubase 13 Pro I won’t need to attach the dongle right…?

The dongle must be attached only when upgrading the license. After the license is upgraded, you will not need the dongle anymore.

If you have any legacy software on the dongle you will still require it. I have vg2 so still need the dongle.

You might need a dongle if you have any expansion packs and VST/Halion instruments that were licensed via the dongle that haven’t been refreshed so still depend on the dongle. (BTW, the dongle used for prior versions was the same dongle as at 9.5, you never needed a new dongle for new versions).

Also you need to hang onto the dongle if you want to run 9.5 - Cubase will let you run old versions after upgrade, which is useful if there are some problems on older projects running on 13 (e.g. old VST instruments that Cubase doesn’t support).
