I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say

I did this arrangement of this lovely tune in MuseScore 4.5 first, then did an xml import into Dorico and tweaked it there as well. I have attached audio links to the 2 versions. In MuseScore, I used Orchestral Tools’ Berlin Soloists for the woodwinds and Spitfire Chamber Strings. In Dorico, I used NPPE with SSO 2024 for the flute, Synchron Prime for the oboe, SSO 2024 for the clarinet and Synchron Prime Elite Strings. I prefer the Dorico rendering, of course; MuseScore has a way to go yet in its formatting and other abilities, and I’m all in for Dorico. However, for free, and only $20.00 each for the MuseScore libraries I used here (which play the ornaments out of the box), it’s not too bad.

This is a pretty tune. I like your choice of instruments for the different sections. Very nice.

Very nice arrangement. (The RVW Dives & Lazarus is a personal favourite.)

It has to be said that MuseScore’s sounds are pretty decent; and the price (on top of the $0 for the app) is hard to beat.

Thank you. I’ve always been drawn to melodies with an ‘Appalachian’ flavor. I realize it’s not possible due to Dorico’s architecture, but it sure would be nice if Orchestral Tools, Spitfire, etc. made Dorico- specific, nice sounding, but inexpensive libraries. The Dorico version is better, but I had to buy Dorico and pay over $1,000 for the libraries I used, plus pay for the NPPE engines. I don’t regret that, of course. But as you said, one does have to admit that those $20.00 libraries made for a free and decent notation program are “pretty decent.”

Thanks for the referral the the Vaugh Williams I knew he did a hymn arrangement at one time, but have never heard this before. Beautiful.

Very nice work! Thank you for posting this.

I enjoy your work as well. :slightly_smiling_face: Thank you.
