media composer here. Usually needs to work with large template with a lot of multi channel VST instruments. in 13 I can’t see the corresponding outputs with the midi channel selected. I need to an additional “channel” side window if I need to see the audio output… and there’s no setup to change it back.
Going back to using 12 for now…
I haven’t upgraded yet.
Just to be clear, is it possible you could upload a small screenshot of what you’re describing please.? Maybe a comparison pic from C12 as well.? Thank you.
I guess you found a bug here: There is a possibility to see the multiple outs (it’s in the Routing section left of the “e” button, but it dosen’t seem to switch the shown audio chanel anymore (if I understand you right).
In Cubase 13, the Activation/Deactivation of multi-out instruments as well as the selection of the displayed output for a track have been streamlined into one popup. Activating an output is done via the checkboxes in the first column while the selection of the displayed output is done via the selected row. You can access this menu both from the Routing section of the Track Inspector as well as the main header of the channel inspector.
Two issues with this here - first the All Outputs doesn’t work as expected (or indeed at all). With the old Rack, the activate all outputs was quick and useful, but that behaviour has been removed too.
Second, you can’t multi-select with a modifier (again as the Rack used to be). Used to be very quick to select, say, inputs 1 and 6, and it would enable all the inputs in between. Grateful if this behaviour could be brought back - the new arrangement is quite nice, but these two missing things slow it down a lot.
Aside from that, I have other issues with the new Inspector, here’s two:
- Midi channels need to be able to show the VST image, not just the Instrument tracks.
- Retrospective record takes up valuable real estate and is not removeable
Also - why is the selector box for the VSTi so small???
It is THE most important box in the Inspector, and you have to really look to find it.!
Adding the picture helps once you have something in place, but its a strange decision to have made.
…and the picture is not available for midi tracks, so that method can’t be relied upon until that’s fixed.
Hi Guy,
- The “All Outputs” entry should work as before if you click the checkmark position in front of it.
- You can quickly activate/deactivate several entries via mouse down and drag up/down on the checkmark column. We changed this behaviour so it is consistent with other, similar lists in the program.
I would’ve expected that but it just doesn’t work. The displayed output sticks to the first channel, it doesn’t change. I’m pretty sure that this is not as it should be.
Everything else in the inspector changes as expected btw. Just the output doesn’t!
Hi @mandoga, is it possible that you maybe create a short video/gif or a few screenshots including your mouse cursor showing that behaviour?
Sure, I did a short clip.
As you can see at the beginning I activated 3 additional mono channels in Kontakt (it’s all the same with the main stereo channel but it’s visually clearer to show it with the mono channels).
Then I click on the subtracks of theses 3 mono channels one after another. When you watch me doing that have a look at the inserts, the eq and the sends in the inspector. Because the settings/activations are different in all 3 mono channels (in the first channel only an insert is activated, in the second inserts and sends are activated, in the third inserts and eq). You can clearly see that when I change the channel.
At the same time the displayed output remains identical all the time. To additionally prove that I changed the pan settings in between.
This is either a bug or simply a fault. It wasn’t like that in Cubase 12 and I cannot remember that it was like that ever before. I think it’s also very obvious why this is a show stopper (you can adjust the volume and pan settings of all additionally activated channels only in the channel settings or in the mixer which is time consuming and uncomfortable when you work in the track window all the time).
I also absolutey agree with vinylizor: The menu box for choosing the output channels is way too small when you consider that one usually wants to regularly change between the displayed channels. I understand that you wanted to save some space but this is not the ideal way to go imho.
Thank you for the video. This is indeed not the intended behaviour and has already been fixed for the next maintenance release.
Best regards
