All that stuff could be caused by bad cables and/or intermittent connectors.

This is all still using Windows Audio and not ASIO right?

Did you load the dedicated drivers?

Do you mean a Gigabyte Motherboard ? - Have you also installed the Reaktek HD Audio Driver ?

sure did

was not certain if i should kill that realtek driver cos i dont want windows using it … just my motu 828
however i deleted it tested … no difference when i restarted windows had reinstalled it automaticly

Errrrrrrrrrgh
even the sup guy at microsoft could not fix this

  1. whats a p7?
  2. is this a secondhand pc?
  3. why did “home studio” get rid of it?
  4. what @raino said.
  5. start from scratch and disconnect the motu. Use windows audio only and see if that crackles.
  6. if it doesn’t then it has something to do with the motu.

windows will allow you to choose which drivers you would like to use, so the Realtek shouldn’t be a problem. It’s as Googly says - try and take it step by step and see if you can find when things break down. As you mentioned chipset drivers do you know if your BIOS and other motherboard components are up to date ? Have you tried to play audio from a file on your computer ?

You’ve said that all audio has crackles and pops - are your speakers connected to the MOTU 828ES? In windows sound settings have you assigned the correct MOTU 828es outputs to your speakers? - I’m just trying to better understand what you’ve done so far.

Picture, thousand words, etc.

Windows has audio options in way too many places IMO. This might help:

Load task manager while playing back your audio to see if your CPU is spiking

Fixed (i hope).
i tried all of the above. including
new usb cable… nope
taking my motu to another studio…nope
using my older 18i20…nope
…windows new install…Bingo

Thanks to all for your invaluable help and suggestions.

Cheers Guys
