I lost my project file - why?

Interesting discovery:
My Dorico on iPad is setup to save to iCloud.
I exported an old Sibelius file to music.xml and imported it into Dorico on my desktop a while ago. I also did some fixes, changes and a transposition.
All files are in one folder:

  1. Singet dem Herrn.sib
  2. Singet dem Herrn.xml
  3. Singet dem Herrn.dorico
(There is also a .pdf export of this project file)
I worked on those files quite a while ago.

Today out of interest, I had Dorico open on my iPad and imported the Singet dem Herrn.xml file 2). After having a look and deciding not to work on this xml file again, I closed that project.
I went back to my iCloud folder and noticed: Dorico on iPad had automatically overwritten my .dorico file :flushed: with a new version from today.
So through the mechanism of Autosave I have lost my dorico project file…

The moral of this story is probably: always delete music.xml files instantly after they have done their duty…

Presumably you have a backup of the old version?

yes, Ben, I was able to recover the file - thanks to my TimeMachine backup…

Thanks for reporting this, Klaus. I will look into this situation: Dorico should be clever enough to give a unique name to the Dorico project created by importing MusicXML, to avoid this from happening. I’m sorry you lost some work (even if only temporarily).
