In Cubase 14 - if I opened multiple instrument tracks/parts in the key editor - the selected (editable) notes/track would be shown in bright colour (usually velocity) and the non-selected notes/parts would still have their individual colours but they would be dulled.
It was a wonderful way of working - writing multiple parts together. Very quick to swap from one instrument to another.
I have upgraded to Cubase 15 now and now all the non-selected (uneditable) notes/parts are all uniformly black!
If I go to settings and and load one of my saved Preference files it goes back to the old behaviour - great! But then I close the key editor and select some other parts in the Project window and open them in Key Editor - and it’s back to the black!!
I have to open settings every time to get back the behaviour I want.
Hi Volker… I know it does not help but I tried it for you (on a Windows 11 PC) and it works as expected. Just like in Cubase 14 as you describe. I must say I never use the “upgrade” way of installing and renamed my Cubase 14 preferences folder before installing Cubase 15. Trying to upgrade and transfer the Preferences always gives me headaches like you describe now. Maybe you can rename your C:\Users\rinie\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Cubase 15_64 folder (or whatever that is on a Mac) and start Cubase and try it with fresh preferences. You can always restore the current preferences by changing the folder’s name back.
This is how it looks like for me with 2 midi parts selected:
I did more testing yesterday - I think it is totally related to using a white background in the key editor. I prefer that - somehow music is easier to visualise for me on a white background (like a score).
I did find a workaround. I have always used the return key (computer keyboard) to swap between editor and project windows and every time I reopen the key editor window all the non-selected notes in the non-selected parts are black again (ie problem reappears).
However - if I go from the Key Editor window (with the corrected colour settings) back to the project window by hiding it rather than closing it - the colour settings stay the same as I want them when I reopen the Key Editor!
to Johnny Moneto - thanks for that hint in Preferences/Editing/Midi.
That does work a bit but I have to have the slider turned up to at least 75% towards max for me to not have the non-active notes in black when I open multiple parts in the Key Editor.
Then the problem is - I can’t easily tell which part/line/notes is active because the shading difference is not big enough.
(The colour I want occurs around 25% away from the min)
I have them same problem on C15, heavy black bars in the key editor for notes that are not in the actively edited part. I’ve come to accept it, but it’s very distracting and awkward. Wish they would be whitish.
I have the same problem. I cannot use Cubase 15. I sent in a support/issue ticket but Steinberg asked me to re-do my preferences which I eventually did, but no change. I think Steinberg is testing Cubase 15 using the black background template for Key Edit notes which might show the issue less, so may be dismissing the issue as not evidenced. I use the off-white background because the black style I find impossible to work with.
