I purchased Dorico 5 via finalemusic.com as a longtime Finale user. for upgade

Hello, I purchased Dorico 5 via finalemusic.com as a longtime Finale user.

Having used Finale for over 20 years, I was quite disappointed by its discontinuation. However, I was grateful for the opportunity to purchase Dorico 5 at a discounted price. As someone new to Dorico, I was surprised and a bit disheartened to learn that Dorico 6 was released shortly after my purchase, which now requires an additional upgrade cost.

Had I known the new version was coming so soon, I would have waited a few more months to purchase Dorico 6 directly and avoided the extra expense. As an early buyer who is still getting used to Dorico, I kindly ask for your consideration. I would be truly grateful if you could offer a complimentary upgrade to Dorico 6.

Thank you very much.

The timing of Finale’s demise caught everyone by surprise – Dorico included. They were already over halfway through their two-year version cycle.

I’m sure that the team would have made an announcement when version 6 was released, if they were going to allow Finale users to get a free update. But you’ve already got version 5 at a substantial discount, and you can’t complain about the amount of new features in the update for the modest price. The labourer is worthy of his hire, and all that.

You can of course stay on version 5 for the time being, until you are more familiar with Dorico, and then update when the additional features will be more meaningful/useful.

There are also sales at various times of year, when Dorico and other Steinberg products are discounted; so make sure you’re signed up to the emails announcing them.

Does this post help :Dorico 5 to 6 - #2 by dspreadbury ?

I have a slightly different problem. I DID wait to purchase the “cross grade” until after Dorico Pro 6 was released. However, to my surprise I received a redemption code ONLY from version 5, and it’s telling me I have to pay extra to upgrade to 6. That’s completely contradictory to what I was officially told on the MakeMusic site. Can someone please clarify?

Did you get to redeem the code? When you do, you should get Dorico 6 instead of 5.

Where, and what, is telling you this?

When you purchase Dorico in your MakeMusic account, you should get an email with a “Download Access Code”. If you use this now (i.e. since April this year) in the Steinberg Download Assistant, then you will get Dorico 6.
