I upgraded pc to Windows 11 and now Cubase 7.5 no longer exports audio signal to any ASIO have run maintenance on the eLCC, changed the soft elicenser name in Syncrosoft folder as suggested in various Steinberg forums but still cannot get audio signal out - although I can see the signal in the mixer. I’ve tried using the “Generic Low Latency Asio Driver” Focusrite, Yamaha Steinberg and Asio4all in the VST Audio System - all of which functioned fine before Windows 11. I don’t want to upgrade Cubase as it worked fine for me until I changed the OS and I don’t want to have to learn an entire new software again.
Hi,
Official Cubase 7.5 compatibility is: Windows 7 · Windows 8 · Windows 8.1. No Windows 10 neither Windows 11. I would recommend you to update to the current Cubase 14, which is fully compatible with the current OS versions.
Thanks…however I have been using Cubase 7.5 with Windows 10 since late 2015. In that time I’ve accumulated dozens of VST’s and other add-ons and it has done the job for me.. Starting from scratch on a newer version would mean losing the projects I am currently working on and probably re-installing and possibly losing all those add-ons - some of which were very expensive and should not be simply discarded. …Major, major headaches when all I need is a means to re-connect the audio signal output from the DAW to the Windows 11 PC’s sound system. I can open Cubase 7.5 - I can edit tracks, record, add VST’s - everything I could do before. I can see the audio signal in the mixer - I just can’t hear anything!! FYI I also have a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 audio interface that I use sometimes and there’s no signal going in there either.
Hi,
Cubase 7.5 is more then 10 years old. It’s just a luck, if it’s compatible with much newer system.
Try to right-click on Cubase icon, select Properties and then Run application in Compatibility mode with Windows 8. Maybe this might work.
I assume you use a Focusrite interface.
Try reinstalling the Focusrite driver.
That is what helped others.
Thanks Martin - I gave it a try but the Cubase refused to complete loading at all after running in Windows 8 Compatibility mode. I then re-installed the Focusrite driver as suggested by JM below. That also didn’t work and now I seem to have lost a lot of functionality that was there before - (VST plugins mostly). So I will relunctantly upgrade to Cubase 14 - which seems to be much less expensive than I had thought before - and hopefully re-install most of the endlessly tweaked VST plugins I’ve purchased over the last 10 years…
This answer depends on whether you updated a Window 10 installation, or performed a complete re-install…
If you have the time, do a complete re-install (after backing up all your settings on another partition/drive). It takes me a day to re-install Windows and all my software, and another day to get the settings right.
I will say that I start up/test/use various old Cubase Pros (5,6,7,8,9 etc) on Win 11 Pro (current version) fairly often with zero issues.
But buying cb14 is probably a good idea for you to do.
Well I’d love to know the trick. It turns out the Cubase 14 prices I was looking at are " update prices from " so it costs at least double what I thought it would.
When you use the word “export”, what you really mean is “when I click to play a track, I don’t hear anything from my speakers/headphones”…right?
Whatever is going on, it’s not your dongle licensing imo. If cb7 were not detecting a license, it would specifically say “no valid license” on screen. It wouldn’t simply silence audio. For clarity, you ARE using an elicenser dongle, right?
A few tests include…put the focusrite aside…install/connect some other brand/model of interface that has its own dedicated drivers (you likely have several lying around), verify windows control panel/sound settings see the interface…start up cb7…assign settings to that interface. Now do you hear signal?
If not, it’s definitely user-error stuff in your overall windows sound settings completely outside of cubase.
If you DO hear sound from interface x…that likely means your focusrite/windows settings need a re-look.
All that being said, my historical expertise is dongle. If your situation is soft-elicenser (no dongle), I still scratch my head to remember which sb products were geared for soft elicensers instead of dongles…anyone know the which/why/when of that approach?..especially the “why” of it.
There is usually a sale in the later summer where upgrades can be bought for sometimes half price.
DosWasBest…thank you so much for such a full map of possible investigations!! I will set to work on this. It might take a while as my time is a bit limited this week. I’ll get back and let you know anyway…Thanks to all of you…much appreciate your input!
