I want to route the audio out through my pc speakers

Hi

I’m using cubase elements 13, a focusrite studio audio interface for guitar and also a usb midi keyboard controller. Basically I want to hear what I play on the midi controller / guitar out through my regular PC speakers not through the audio interface headphones. How do I do this? Really appreciate your advice. Thank you

Probably best to get asio4all which is a free driver that works with internal audio interfaces. Cubase uses asio and onboard audio never provide an asio driver.

Many thanks!
Downloaded and routed output through Realtek speakers which works for midi keyboard controller but NOT for guitar. Cannot hear the guitar at all although the Chanel strip is moving when i strum just don’t hear any sound. Selected Asio 4 all as sound card driver.

Did you turn on the Monitor button on the guitar track? It’s the button with the speaker symbol on it. If it’s disabled, the incoming audio signal is not automatically routed to the output and therefore you can’t hear it when playing.

Thank you for response, Yes monitor is enabled

What about routing?

What you are trying to do is to use two different audio devices, for input the Focusrite, for output your on-board soundchip (let me guess, Realtek). Cubase is not really made for this. However, ASIO4ALL should let you do this by forfeiting any special advantage the dedicated Focusrite ASIO driver may give your Focusrite interface.

You would need to specifically select the input and output device in the control panel of the ASIO4ALL driver. Kindly post a screenshot of it if you have troubles getting it done. Do you know where to find the control panel of the currently selected ASIO driver?

Good point. I didn’t pick up on this.

Thank you for the response.
I have opened up what is asio4all settings. please see photo screenshot. I am unsure which output to choose as there are 2 for realtek.
Also when opening cubase it asks for an option for soundcard and gives 4 options see pic screenshot, again i am unsure which to choose to achieve my objective of hearing my guitar out of my pc speakers.

Also in cubase under Audio connections tab (see screenshot photo) there is no output option for asio4all / realtek. only shows focusrite.

Also on windows 11, taskbar speaker icon, there are sound settings which gives 3 options, unable to screenshot.
1 realtek digital output
2 speakers focusrite usb audio
3 speakers realtek audio

are these setings relevant?

No, not for Cubase. It uses a parallel, independent audio system

You are using the Generic Low Latency ASIO driver (red). Asio4ALL is the one marked orange.
grafik

So i just need to choose asio4all and that’s it?
What about the audio connections screenshot in cubase? Only shows focusrite as output not asio4all

The audio connections will get reset to “not connected” once you change the ASIO driver in Cubase.
First change the driver, then open its control panel to select Focusrite as input and Realtek as output, then make the audio connections.
