I just upgraded to a I9 13900k, did all the tweaks only to find I get clicks and pops. After I disabled the E cores Cubase seems to be OK but it’s crazy I have to do this! Is there a fix in the works Steinberg?
Enable back E cores and try to disable Windows Core Parking instead. This could help.

Mine and others 13900ks are working so not so much a 13900k thing but a system thing to check.
You haven’t mentioned much what hardware you have in the system but here’s a few things to do:
- Enable Steinberg Power Scheme (or use Windows 11 Maximum Performance power plan - not the Balanced with Bias to wards Performance, the actual Maximum power plan)
- If you are using an NVIDIA (or probably any) graphics card Put it on Maximum Performance (no power saving) - With NVIDIA you can do this via the NVIDIA Contorl Panel in Manage 3D settings either as a always on Default or add Cubase12.exe to the application specific settings and just do it for Cubase 12 (that is how I have mine set along with the Steinberg power plan)
1 and 2 are all I need to do but I also looked a Core Parking on/off and it made little difference.
Wifi for your network might be another one to try (mine is on in the BIOS but off in Win 11)
P and E cores can be on just fine.
Last thing for diagnostics try using latencymon and see what it has to say. Without the powersaving for NVIDIA turned off it would show the NVIDIA kernel driver being an issue. Mines all clear for 15 minutes or so with it. You can test this with the automatic swtiching by running Cubase but not loading anythign as well - that will switch on the Steinberg power scheme but not interfere with latencymon doing it’s thing.
Hope y ou nut it out cause the 13900k is very powerful.
I would add, I assumed Windows 11 and recent updates . This is essential since it has thread director updates which matter.
I’m using the I9 13900k onboard graphics, Windows 11 with all updates. Core Parking didn’t really help but disabling E cores helped. I’ve done all the usual tweaks, CPU states off, Steinberg power scheme etc.
What does latencymon report?
It eventually says “not suitable”. Should I be using a graphics card?
It should tell you what the highest DPC and ISR causes are - it will have a name of a file or service in the display. What does that say? If you aren’t sure what you’re looking at grab a screenshot of the window - I speak nerd so can interpret some things.
This will point us towards the issue in many cases.
That does look healthy but you should be able to use your e-cores as well.
I’d be interested to see what latencymon says with your e-cores enabled.
Might be worth checking your internal GPU power saving is on Maximum Performance as well - This might be how to do that, I have mine on but haven’t checked its settings given my NVIDIA card How to Change Power Plans in the Intel® Graphics Command Center
You haven’t mentioned what audio interface you are using. I have Windows 11 and an i9 12900k. My audio interface is a Focusrite. What I’ve noticed it that, from time to time, I will get “pops & clicks” with my audio interface. It’s something that never happened on my Windows 10 pc. When that happens now, I simply Uninstall my Focusrite drivers, reboot, and then Re-Install my Focurite drivers, and that fixes it.
You didn’t mention what type of Motherboard you have. I would recommend that you make sure you have the latest BIOS installed for your motherboard, and also make sure you have the latest update for Windows 11.
A somewhat less diagnostic report than I was hoping for but given your motherboard and the high ISR rather than DPC let’s take a stab at it being a RealTek driver/bios issue - your motherboard uses Realtek for Ethernet, Wifi and onboard Audio.
As a trial disable all of these either in Bios or Device manager then rerun latencymon with all your efficiency cores active.
If that actually works, then try enabling just Ethernet - no wifi, no onboard audio… and so on. That may isolate the problem child. Then it will be a case of waiting for a driver and/or BIOS update (or just living without that bit).
Our toys, um, I mean tools are very new and incompatibilities abound at the moment. My original DDR5 RAM failed to Post and I had to replace it with slower memory. Annoying but resolved in due course. Your situation is more frustrating given the lack of a direct pointer to the issue thus far.
Quick note in case it helps, my motherboard is an ASUS Rog STRIX Z790-e gaming wifi. Ethernet and Wifi are intel
Your motherboard has a mid January BIOS update available (Version F3). Worth checking yours is up to date given the recent timing. It’s also the second available version and may well have been update because of reported issues.
I applied the F3 bios update, no difference.
Did you try disabling wifi and Ethernet?

I mention it again as I stumbled across a thread from a Studio One user reporting a similar issue and they had the same motherboard and CPU as you.
Yes, I tried disabling everything to no avail…
Then I am baffled I’m afraid - recap for my own sanity…
Power Mode High Performance or Steinberg Power plan - yep
intel gfx power saving maximum performance - yep
Windows 11 all patched - yep
Disable wifi, ethernet and audio onboard - yep
i9 P and E cores - yep (and these work fine for other 13900k users)
BIOS up to date
Latency mon running - still says no, still showing an ISR
Gotta be a driver somewhere but not showing in latencymon…at some point something will probably update and it will cure itself - but darn frustrating right now.
Only thing can do now is find a (good) mate with a similar rig and swap parts until you find the problem.
I’ll get back in touch if I come across anything else. I really thought that realtek wifi was gonna be the issue…shame.
